Evening all

Need a rough quote for fitting an electric shower over the bath. All the electrics are done its the plumbing and fitting that's needed.
Just a rough idea so I can get saving smile

Decent elcy shower will cost you around £80 and a plumber will charge around £10o to £180 to fit depending on where he can pick up water supply from and if pipes need chasing in wall or can be surface fixed. Will tiling be damaged?

You say electric has have been done check if a separate supply has been taken from your meter with a correctly sized circuit breaker and that the supply can be isolated outside the bathroom or by pull cord well away from the bath. The higher wattage showers need a bigger supply.

Thanks for the replies

The shower will be fitted over the bath and it will need chasing in to the wall. No worries on tile damage as everything in the bathroom is being replaced including wall tiles.

I have already bought the shower and all the electrics were done by the council with correct circuit breaker and pull cord away from the bath smile

A plumber may not do the complete job as fitting an electric shower requires the approval of building control (Part P - Building Regs).

The plumbing firm would have to be NAPIT or NICEIC Approved (for example) or carry an electrician on board so they can test the electrical installation, issue the certificate and notify building control.

Electrician would also confirm that the existing cable is suitably sized to power the new electric shower.

Apparently council have done the electric so a plumber can just fit it to an existing certified supply? Just like changing alighting pendant or switch ?

Not really, because the council wouldn't know what kW rating the shower was and if the cable installed was suitably rated.

Shower unit usually falls within zone 1 of bathroom so its notifiable works regardless of it being on a existing tested property, even if its like for like.

Changing a switch or socket (like for like) is not notifiable works.

To be honest Part P hasn't made an impact and most people don't know, however if its a rented property you may be leaving yourself wide open if something went wrong.
