Yesterday , I found a tiny article about the Fox and Hounds pub in Barnston dip. It said there was a pub there , going back to 1560's. That was about all it said. Just wondered if anyone else had anymore information .
Thanks.

Hi Davefabo, nice to see you back on here.
The site that Yin Ying has linked and I assume the same one as you mention, is not the one I saw, this has quite a bit more on it .
Great, many thanks to you both.
How did your swallows do Davefabo. ?. Hope they did well.

I've been there a couple of times. It's a 'proper' pub that hasn't been adulterated by turning it into a fancy bar / restaurant.

It's got a really nice atmosphere. I'd recommend it

Here's it's website http://www.the-fox-hounds.co.uk/

There's is a bit more info on the Fox and Hounds plus other interesting reading on this link:

http://content.yudu.com/Library/A21t0w/HeswallMagazineFebru/resources/22.htm

Also
Edward Chambré Hardman the famous Irish photographer lived in Barnston . He and his family moved to there in 1941 and stayed for seven years, until his Bold Street studio lease expired. That seems strange ,as his business apparently thrived during the war years, due to servicemen wanting family photos taken. Maybe he just wanted to escape the bombed city.

See you in a few months bigpete, when no doubt you will have a response !

No, he moved round the corner into 59 Rodney St., his new studio. It's now owned and preserved by the National Trust. I must visit it before my membership expires at the end of this year.

He did live in Barnston according to the National Trust brochure that they used to do. I am sure he moved his studio to Rodney Street after Bold Street Chris. He was at Rodney Street when he died.Much of his work had been dumped in bags outside his home when people responsible for clearing his home, had no idea what his work entailed. Some was rescued but they have no idea how much did get disposed of.

I did go a number of years ago to Rodney Street, just after it had opened. Well worth a visit but I suggest you book in advance, as they take (or did) only a handful of people in at one time.

Yes, Granny; I meant that he moved his studio (and his residence), to Rodney St. after the Bold St. lease expired. Sorry, should have made it clearer.
His picture "The Birth of the Ark Royal" is superb; my dad helped to build that ship.

Lucky it's not in Wallasey or it would have been gutted, made to "look old" and been renamed, to something like "Flanagan's" or "Barney's" or something, by now!
