A DRIVER has been suspended pending a disciplinary hearing after apparently ignoring a frantic dads pleas to let his little boy get off his Stagecoach bus.

Dad Darren Prices cries for help could clearly be heard on CCTV as he hammered on the door and watched in horror as the vehicle pulled out of Birkenhead bus station on Saturday.

Five-year-old Georgie had been swept onto the vehicle with a crowd of passengers after his family realised it was the wrong bus.

Darren and his wife, Helen, were taking their three children to Blue Planet Aquarium to celebrate their daughter, Helens birthday.

Darren, aged 40, of New Hey Road, Woodchurch, said: I turned away and noticed that Georgie had disappeared. I immediately knew he had mistakenly boarded the bus.

I ran after the bus and was banging on the sides and the front door.

I shouted and screamed at the driver - but despite my pleas, and shouts from other passengers, he just didnt stop.

I could see my son crying near the back of the bus. I ran after it to the next stop in Argyle Street. The bus was gone. I panicked and feared the worst.

This doesn't surprise me one bit. I can't tar all drivers with the same brush, but I was on a Liverpool to Heswall bus once, and as I stood to get off, and this was a few years ago, my daughter reached up and managed to press buttons to call off a ticket. The driver asked me to pay for this, and after I refused and words were had he pulled the bus over onto a grass verge and took a swing at me.

After running away I called the bus company (Arriva) and gave the details from my ticket to identify the driver and was eventually written to by the bus company only to be told that the driver had not yet completed his NVQ in Customer Service.

Looking back I should have called the Police, but also looking back, anyone reading this who might have remembered this happening thank you SO MUCH for stepping in to help a young woman with a young kid get almost punched by a bus driver, I hope you all got home safe and well.

A boy got on the bus the bus stopped at the next stop and a kind lady walked the boy back to his father.
A crowd getting on the driver could not be expected to notice who was with who that is the parents job.I expect that the driver thought the man wanted him to stop because he had missed the bus.
No doubt if the lady had not offered the driver would have telephoned the police.
No blame can be attached to the parents but equally I feel sorry for the driver.
Unpleasant things happen that are circumstances rather than somebodys fault.

A lady on the bus was seen on the CCTV telling the driver that the child was on the bus and that his DAD was running after the bus to get him.

The bus driver should have stopped.

Driver in the wrong again, obey 1 rule and someone will tell you, you have just broken another, I have had a passenger tell me I am breaking the human rights act by not letting him off between stops. Why run to the press with the story other than to put pressure on Stagecoach to sack him. The driver obeyed the rules of the bus station ( not his ).

Re Lateboy I find it difficult to see where this driver could have stopped before Argyle street. It is not a news story it is something that can happen nobodys fault all resolved in 2 minutes and a worker loses their job.

When I worked for Birkenhead Corpy buses we used to say that it would be a great job if it wasn't for the public. Tongue in cheek but with a hint of truth. Hope the driver gets exonerated.
