A Wirral snack bar owner was fined after health inspectors discovered mouse droppings on drinks cans and cleaning products in her premises.
Denise Boothroyd was forced to immediately close Denise’s Snack Bar – based in Birkenhead Central railway station – after a council hygiene inspection last October.
She was fined £400 after pleading guilty to breaching food hygiene regulations at Wirral magistrates’ court this week.
The routine inspection by Environmental Health revealed an “imminent risk to health” at the snack bar,
which has since re-opened and been given a satisfactory bill of health.Mice droppings were found on cleaning products, equipment and canned drinks “from which the purchaser would come into direct contact with”.
There was also evidence of food debris, gnawed products and the premises did not have a constant supply of hot water.
