If you think like me that car insurers are just taking the piss now because they know we need to have it in order to drive then sign this and share it to as many people as you can, it would be nice to not get bullied by insurers and their fake reasons why they have to put the price up so much. Something needs to change.

No thanks, I personally don't mind paying. It protects ME & MY FAMILY. Imagine if I didn't have insurance and had a minor collision but the car I hit had £1000+ etc damage. I could never afford to pay it.

I do trust my driving and feel that most do, our insurance also helps is someone bumps us, quicker payout than going through the courts and costs to get money owed + costs of case and maybe car hire, fees if suffering life threatening injuries and so on I feel this is a really important thing to remember.

I do however feel that young/new drivers insurance is vastly overpriced (you can include certain jobs) and it's good to see some companies trying with driver monitoring devices trying to help

Overall all I feel compulsory insurance should stay, it may need tweaking in areas but mostly I think it works.

im a 39 yr old driver, ive been driving for 6 yrs now and my job is a delivery driver,my insurance for my 1.4 ford fiesta (which is worth approx £300) is £1100 because of my post code!!i live in liscard so the area really isnt that bad,BUT if i was to insure my car from my fathers address in north wales my insurance would be £350!that is a hell of a difference and people have said to me that i should insure it from there but i couldn't afford to have an accident and the insurance company not to pay out!!so in my opinion these insurance companys are total rip offs!

Yes the insurance is a rip off, yes they know we have to have it, but it made compulsory for a reason. I don't think they should abolish it, but IMO what they do need is;
-Tighter government controls and strict, realistic guidelines on how much they can charge.
-Stricter penalties/fines/even jail time for 'cash for crash' type scammers.
-Scrapping the postcode system so that it is dependent on the car/age/history, not where someone lives.
After all, the areas that would have the lowest insurance are probably the areas that can most afford it.
-Encourage competition among insurers so customers can get the lowest rates, not some back room price fixing.
-Cap the insurance rates for each type of car, so you don't get silly £5000+ quotes for a Corsa, etc.
-Bigger discounts for taking safe driving courses.
-Allow 'seasoned' drivers to take the courses.
-Get rid of some of these 'automatic fault' rules that are easy prey for scammers.
-Big discounts for using dashcams
-Dare I even say, a license to ride a bicycle??
I'm sure proper cyclists wouldn't mind.

But I agree something has to be done, when I was young I understood that insurance was meant to go down as you got older, but it seems to do nothing but go up.

Just my two cents worth

I know we live in a democracy which allows freedom of speech and thankfully a degree of civilised existence, but I question the moderators allowing an initial post such as this to appear on this forum

Many countries don't have compulsory insurance, so, right or wrong, the question put forward for debate is a valid one.

Its all about risk. A 40 something, healthy, careful driver in a nice area with a gated driveway is going to be less risky than a car parked on a road outside a house in Birkenhead.

Its common sense. Its not about affordability, its about risk.

The more likely the car is going to get stolen or written off the higher the premium.

Its not a rip off for everyone. I only pay a couple of hundred fully comp.

Do what you can to get your premiums lower if you can.

As for getting rid of compulsory insurance, I have an old "AA Book of the road" where it states lodging a bond of something like £20,000 with the coroner or court means you don't need insurance. I'll dig it out later.

As for the petition, what a joke. Badly worded, badly thought out. I loved the bit about ANPR. What about car tax dodgers?

Just read your petition. Its a bit silly really.

What if Im a fully insured, careful driver and some uninsured driver ploughs straight into me. Why should I have to pay for my own car damages and injuries just because he is uninsured?

I would have to claim on my own insurance when it wasn't my fault, pushing my own premium right up.

How do you suggest you make this fair?

It all depends on the system you were brought up with.

In the states insurance is not a legal requirement, although you do need to have personal liability insurance (in all but one state), so it can work.

In New Zealand there is no requirement to have any form of insurance, and the cases of whiplash are almost zero, as you cannot sue the other person in the event of an accident, you are however entitled to health treatment to return you back to your original state, but this is paid to the doctors (by the ACC) not the accident victim.

To reduce insurance quotes the answer is quite simple (to me):
Your driving licence should be a record of ANY driving accidents, it should show if you were at fault, or not, and how many people were involved
It would be quite simple to have a database against your licence number, disqualified drivers would vanish overnight as you couldn't get a number to link the insurance to, the same for provisional licence holders.
It should be COMPULSORY for insurance companies to see ALL licences in the event of a claim. If you hit someone all of your details are checked, but no one checks the other drivers, so they get a big payout as long as their insurance exists, valid licence or not.
Whiplash claims and cash/flash for crash cases go, as your licence would show repeated accidents.

Oh yes, and a real bugbear with me, stop people parking on the zigzags outside schools, never mind "I'm only dropping my kids off", so is everybody else, they didn't leave them clear for you to park in, it's to protect children crossing the road !!! Grrrrr

Dr, vehicle insurance (not just personal liability insurance) is indeed a legal requirement in (I do believe) all States of the USA. Not sure where you got that from?
