Just wanted to give a huge public thank you to Heswall Animal Welfare and Woodville Kennels in Thornton Hough. As per my previous post about my neighbour's dog Bailey, I was desperate to find him a new home or place in a shelter. I was at the point of taking him to the Dog Pound but knew they would put him down due to his age and issues with other animals but I just couldn't cope any longer. No one was able to help until I contacted Heswall Animal Welfare for the last time and they agreed to place him in their kennels at Thornton Hough. I took him down this morning and the staff were fantastic promising to do their best in helping him get over his issues and rehome him. They are real stars and I can't thank them enough. I'm not trying to criticise other animal rescue organisations as I know there are too many dogs and too little money to help them.

Thanks for that lovely comment but I've known my neighbour for eighteen years and she has no family left. I love her and can't abandon her or the dog when things get tough. I'm just glad he will be happy with someone who can give him the attention he deserves.

Uffda, you are a real star . So many people wouldnt give a monkey's about a neighbours elderly mutt . Its always heartbreaking when a senior citizen has to go into a NH and give up their pet , so Im sure you have lessened her pain a bit , knowing she could rely on you to have her loved dog's best interest at heart. Hope before long you are able to report to her (and us) that he has found a new forever home. Its a nightmare for any 'a pet is for life' type owners to have to give one up , but I especially feel bad for the elderly who are losing their independence and everything familiar, all at the same time. Just horrible. Think I will make sure I dont have any pets left before I reach that stage , and just do maybe dog share or dog minding to satisfy my need to be around animals.

Thanks Venice but the real stars are the people at Woodville Kennels. They said he would be tested on all behaviour aspects and they would do their best to rehabilitate and rehome him. I know he has issues but has such a fabulous personality that he deserves a second chance. They were so kind, I ended up blubbering on the guy Robbie. You have a good point that people don't always think about their animals if they pass away or can't look after them. A friend got her dog from The Dog's Trust and has an agreement for them to take any dog she might have when she passes away in exchange for a legacy in her will. I know not everyone is in a position to do this, but please think of what will happen in the event of the worst and talk to your family about these arrangements. I know I'll now be sorting out a similar arrangement for my cats (but not The Dog's Trust lol).

Just a quick update for anyone interested. Heswall Animal Rescue rang me today to say that someone has taken Bailey in for a week's trial. She saw him at the kennels, is aware of his issues and is an experienced dog owner so he only spent one night there! I knew if I could just get someone to meet him they would fall in love with his gorgeous personality. I would be very surprised if he was returned to the kennels. Hopefully it's a happy ending.

Uffda, what lovely news for you. You have put so much effort into trying to find a home for Bailey, fingers crossed he will now be able to feel the love and warmth again, of someone who will give him a good home. You have done so very well. A sad story with a happy ending. :)X

This dog (or possibly a remarkable coincidence ) is now being kept at the Carla Lane rescue in Melling so p'raps the person that took him from Woodville didn't keep him. Advertised in Wirral News as 'Bailey, cross labrador, owner died'.

Muzzy2, can you tell me where you got the info that Bailey was at Carla Lane? He isn't on their website and I've just phoned them and they say he isn't there. To be honest, I'm really confused as I was told by Wirral Animal Welfare that he had been adopted by a woman. Carla Lane did take his details a couple of weeks ago and said they would advertise him but I rang them to say that he had been rehomed. Maybe they had already tried to advertise him in the paper and it was too late to cancel it. Unfortunately I put the Wirral News in the recycling bin this morning (already collected) and he's not on their website. I'll ring Heswall Animal Welfare to try and sort it out.
