Does anybody have any information on when this street went ?.

I have it on a 1899 OS map, off Oliver Street, between Wilson and Wesley Street.

It is one of those hideous 'court' type streets, with pedestrian access only and no back yard so I hope it did not last too long.

My interest is that it seems to have been the first place one of my Dad's ancestors lived in Birkenhead.

Trying to post a jpg.....

I lived in Oliver Place and in the 1950's there were no houses in Millers Place, it was just a piece of land we called the bombie (or bombfield?) and as far as I can remember no bricks or remains of houses were there .
We used to dig worms up there for fishing and was where we had our bonfire on bonfire night

I bet the morning after Bonfire Night the worms were more like 'pork scratchings'!

Would that be the area where the fly-over was built?

bigpete, try the reference library, Borough Road. I went there looking for information about such a, now extinct, place called Carpenter's Row. Not only did they give me information on it, they provided me with two photographs which were taken early last century before it was demolished. Living conditions were dreadful.
Well worth a visit if you haven't already. They are very helpful people.

It looks like there are 2 different spellings - Millers & Millars
1916 and later it is Millars

Brilliant - thanks all.

The early map shows 13 dwellings in the row - wonder if this had been reduced by 1916 to the 8 in Derek's post ?

The flyover was a little further north YingYang - directly above Conway Street - but not far away at all...

Wow - did not expect that...

Suppose it is a pretty useless little parcel of land not suitable for more 'modern' development.

Unless you want a worm farm....

the gap between the houses was as wide as a road (think you can see the Millar's Place sign on one of the houses

Where all the bricks are would have been the entrance to Millar's Place
