Thanks Ste , as your the lone voice in the wilderness I was beginning to wonder if that info was useful to anyone or anyone cared!! xxx but it really does work and of course does NOT wash off in the rain.

Will give it a go in my war against slimey critters. Had a lot of my vegetables in pots off the ground and used some sticky copper tape around the legs of staging and had no trouble with slugs and snails.
Not so true on the allotmewnt though. Not as bad as last year but i did give it a good dusting of slug pellets during the year.

We've got a resident hedgehog! laugh Nothing beats that! To anything slimy, they are the Armageddon itself! devil

But to anyone who is hedgehog-less, your tip sounds a lot better than slug/snail pellets, beer traps, crushed egg shells and copper bands around pots. smile

I would never put down slug pellets again. They kill the hedgehogs and the birds, that eat the slugs and snails.

Too bad if they eat the plants, just try different plants that they don't like.

Gardeners World tip for pot plants.

Put the pots on one of the dish/bases you can get to stand them on, and fill it with water. Plants will only take up as much water as they need, and slugs and snails won't cross the water.

Seems good to me. smile

I was watching a snail crawl across my garden. I took it's shell off thinking it would speed it up, but it just made it sluggish! 😄

(I'll get me coat and return to the day job)

Reminds me of a scam in the newspapers MANY years ago:

Ultimate Slug Killer

100% Success Rate

Kills Slugs on Contact (you have no idea how true that was)

Basically the usual glossy advert saying how pellets were bad for pets, salt didn't work etc and then promised a guaranteed device, only £9.99 plus £9 postage and packing with money back (less postage) if it didn't do as it said.

Sounds good, how could you lose.

Money in post, parcel arrives, in parcel are two blocks of wood and some instructions:

Place Block A on hard surface
Place slug on Block A
Strike Block A with Block B

It worked
It was 100% effective
