Update:

An angry teenager who climbed onto the roof of McDonald's restaurant in Birkenhead and hurled dozens of tiles at a police car and threatened members of the public was put behind bars for ten months today.

Daniel Truelove also hurled a 5ft long plank at a policeman but fortunately no one was injured during the hour-and-a-half incident, though £700 worth of damage was caused to the patrol car.

Eighteen-year-old Truelove had gone onto the roof believing police wrongly thought he had been involved in altercation in nearby Asda with a knife, and were looking for him.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that while on the roof of the building at Charing Cross, he threatened to jump because of an earlier row with his girlfriend which had ended with him smashing windows in the block where she lived.

He later said he threw tiles at the police car because one of the officers at the scene had refused to give him a cigarette, said Hannah Brookfield, prosecuting.

She told the court that on August 17 this year a support worker at Pembroke Court, Birkenhead, went to assist a female resident who had been heard screaming.

He escorted her to the safety of an office downstairs and locked the door.

Her boyfriend, Truelove, came to the office and when he was not allowed to see her, he punched a reinforced window pane breaking it and then smashed a hole in another one with a fire extinguisher.

After failing to get in he fled but almost six hours later, at 8 pm, he was spotted on McDonald's roof throwing about 30 tiles and items including a plank of wood.

"He made threats of violence to police offers and members of the public who had begun to gather below to witness what was happening. He also made threats to jump," she said.

A large number of police arrived at the scene and the area was closed to traffic for fears about the safety of the public.

A police negotiator arrived and eventually Truelove came down.

When interviewed "he said he did not want to injure anyone but at the time did not care about the danger he was putting members of the public in," said Miss Brookfield.

Truelove, of Ribble Street, Birkenhead, pleaded guilty to three charges of criminal damage, affray, driving without insurance and a licence.

The court heard the driving offences occurred in April after he took over driving of a pizza delivery vehicle, in which he had been a passenger, as the woman driver had got lost.

He had to swerve to avoid a car and collided with two parked cars.

Neil Gunn, defending, said that Truelove, who has previous convictions, is a talented chef but he has trouble controlling his temper.

"He lost his temper and accepts he behaved in the manner described and wishes to apologize," he said.

Sentencing him the judge, Recorder Paul O'Brien said that he had been "in a wild rage" during the incident in Pembroke Court and later on the roof threw the plank at an officer who was "just trying to talk some sense into you."

He sentenced him to ten months' detention in a Young Offender Institution and imposed nine points on his driving licence.

Talented chef my ass!
Why is it all the no hopers like to say they are chefs?

Probably due to the amount of time sat on their asses smokin crack and spending their dole money on beer whilst watching those crappy cooking things on tv.
