Here is a useful poster to print out if you find yourself in this situation. It may save a life. Please share around.

RABBITS ARE DYING

Hello. After hearing that several pet rabbits have died in this heat ,Wirral Animal Concern is delivering posters where worried members of the public have advised us that there is an animal hutched , with little or no shade at times.

Rabbits are prone to heat stroke . Trapped in a wooden box They suffer just like dogs left in hot cars .

Sometimes people are out all day, and their rabbit hutch is in shade when they leave in the morning so when they return in the evening, they're unaware that for parts of the day , their rabbit trapped in its box, has in effect been slowly baking.

We are sure you love your pet , please protect him from this distressing experience before it's too late.

Thanks for posting that Venice.

Rabbits are the most adorable creatures and quite clever. How distressing it is, to think they are baking in their very own ovens cry.

I have just printed one of these out for a property near Sainsburys in Neston where there is a long haired rabbit in just such a situation. Absolutely disgusting and really distressing to see.
Really hope people will Facebook this poster there must be loads of people who see rabbits next door to them, but arent sure how to make a first approach to the owners.

Not only but also. In this heat, if they are not cleaned out thoroughly and daily, they are likely to die from maggot infestation, anyway. The Blow Fly lay their eggs in the backside of the rabbit, the maggots develope and eat their way into the rabbits body. Horrible!
Also, if they don't have their teeth checked and cut down when necessary, they are also more than likely to die from starvation, because they cannot chew.
Shame on people who don't care for them properly. Everyone jumps up and down about dogs and cats but the humble rabbit has a miserable, cruel existence in many cases.

Dont they just Granny. "For Gods its only a rabbit" attitude prevails it would seem when you look in gardens, there are just so many sitting like unpacked statues in their boxes with a bit of straw around them. Poor things , a slow living death.

Well said rabbits don't deal with the heat as well as people ours is ageing now so he is kept indoors but when he goes out in the garden we use an old white sheet over the top of the run to keep the heat off and don't put him out around the hotter hours of the day its common sense really.

Good point and plenty of water attached to a run if they got one.as rabbits are used to underground which is cooler.if they were in the wild they would cope. Its effecting alot of wild life i put alot of water out and scraps of food.even your own pets are feeling the heat.
