Does anyone have any information about Arrowe Park when it was used as a WWI Auxilliary Hospital or of the Lady who ran it - Miss Dora Schintz.

The hospital was at Arrowe Hall, probably the only building large enough to use, unless of course there was a hutted complex in close proximity. Over the years I've come across snippets on it, but nothing substantial, perhaps if you get in touch with, http://www.wirral.gov.uk/my-services/leisure-and-culture/wirral-archives-service/documents-we-hold
they may be able to help.

Always thought the Americans had a major hutted hospital at Clatterbridge, I thought Arrowe park was used for tank training

Arrowe Hall was a WW1, WW2 military Hospital and after Lord Leverhulme sold it to Birkenhead Council it was used as a hospital until Arrowe Park Hospital was built then it was used as a special needs home.

I have a clear memory from my childhood of being on the top deck of a bus going along Arrowe Park Road towards Moreton and seeing a tank lodged in the broken stone boundary wall of the park, having just crashed into it. This must have been around the mid to late1950s, so military training may still have been going on there at that time. Or, with advancing age, my memory may be playing tricks on me.

Arrowe park was used by 113 Assault regiment Royal Engineers T.A. with A.V.R.E. tracked vehicles in the form of Churchill tanks with flails fitted for destroying land mines and others fitted with bridgeing devices for crossing ditches and streams. They were based at Harrowby Road drill hall. It was also used by 102 amphibious Transport Squadron RASC from Clatterbridge with tracked Buffalo Amphibs. During the war it was a vehicle storage and distribution depot used by the American army.
