You arent the only one that went to Cathcart street. My sisters, Jean,Angela, myself Stanley and brother Dennis all went there. We lived in Hope Street which was a two minute walk from the school and for our dinner we had to walk up the road to a seperate building. We shopped at Mr Tapeleys and went to church at St Peters sometimes.

Looked through the backlog on this one, surprised how mixed up people get over some schools but still, it was a long time ago. I went to Trinity Street myself and then the BI, but the old BI on Whetstone Lane. That is the BI that Wilfred Owen went to. I was there until 1958. The school shut and then Tollemache Road, which was called a Secondary Modern, took the BI name over for some reason. The old BI was a Grammar School otherwise known as a High School. For some reason all the schools seem to be High Schools now. Progress......

Was there from 1955 to 1961.Sorry dont remember any of the people that went there or any of the teacher`s names, too much water has run under the bridge since them days.Never forget school dinners though, where you had to walk up the road,I can still see that building as clear as day.

I attended BI from 1972 to 1976,Nogger Morris wa the bain of my life I hated latin with a passion he would grab your sideys and yank on them upwards making you stand on your tiptoes and he had the infamous "Mr Pike" with which he would wrap round your butt cheeks lol, other teachers I remember from BI are Titty Tomlinson and Mr Topping the english teachers, Taffy Evans the french teacher he was great for lending you 2p for your busfare home he never ever clicked on I lived across the road lol another teacher was Frothy Turner the careers teacher I dont know how true it was but legend has it he used to drink dettol after being tortured by the japanese in the war, best teacher ever was Citto or Mr Citrene the history teacher he would go off on a tangent from the topic and tell us mad stories, I'm sure if i think about it I can name a few more but will save them for another day Oh nearly forgot about Skinny Malcom the deputy head scary man lol looked like a cross between a vampire and that wierd keyboard player from the seventies band Sparks lol

I attended BI, or Grange Secondary Modern School for Boys aka Tolley(as it was known then) from 1964 - 69. I can remember some of the teachers you mentioned, such as Taffy Evans, Mr Citrene and Frothy Turner. Yes, I can vividly remember him drinking Dettol in his tea. He told us he'd been bitten on the lip by a snake during the war. What I found strange was that he kept his "Dettol" in a whisky bottle! Mind you, to be fair, it was "Teachers"!

The headmaster was G.A.Topp, he used to drive a big black car which we referred to as the GATmobile. Then there was Ben Lyon, the chemistry teacher, who bore a striking resemblance to Kenneth Connor from the Carry On films. I can remember him having a strap hanging up in his little storeroom, it reminded me of one of those straps that barbers of old would sharpen their cutthroat razors on. To be fair, I don't think he ever used the strap on any of the lads, I think he just kept it for its scare value (it did that alright!) Also, there was Kitty Williams, rumour had it she used to eat Kit-e-Kat butties but I don't know if it was true or not. Then there was Jock Moet, Arthur Pearce, Mr Ravenscroft, Ivor Walker, Lilly Pritchard, Keith Davies... and even Torchy, the Caretaker... Geez, they're all coming back to me!

Dave just reading your post there and another few names you quoted where still at the school when I attended, I remember Kieth Davies think he taught art Ben Lyon physics teacher, if memory serves me right Lily was also an art teacher and later married Keith George Forster the maths teacher, I can remember Arthur Pearce but can't remember what he taught, when you were there did you get thrown down the shrubbery as a first year lol apparently it was a custom! If you left in 69 you wouldn't remember the cabins being built on the middle campuses where one side was the tech drawing rooms and the other was used for remedial students(not politically correct these days)
