PCI cards are FAR better than dongles for wireless connections.

You can always use the adapters than run the signal through your mains wiring, and these are faster than wireless, but can be quite expensive.

Also used the mains as a link again worked perfect about £60 same page as above follow extenders
PCI looks best

You could buy IP plugs £29 you plug them into your mains allowing you to keep a reliable strong link. Wireless can be overated in some situations.

Have a look at these powerline adapters.

http://www.ebuyer.com/263575-tp-link-200mbps-powerline-adapter-twin-pack-tl-pa211kit

These are great, ive installed loads of these in homes and businesses with wifi problems.

Hope that helps.

Of course, yes we keep them in, think the PCI wireless cards are about £11, and fitting them is a two minute job so just bring the PC with you and we'll do it whilst you wait.

If you're just using the computer for general use then the wireless cards should be fine, however if you're using it for online gaming the difference in speed between wireless and wired can be noticeable so, as Mark says, the Plugs would be a better (albeit more expensive) option. The cost of the mains plugs varies depending on their speed and if they also rebroadcast the wireless network, so what you are using them for is an important point to consider.

General use and router not too far away - PCI Wireless card
General use and router at limit of range - Add higher db gain aerial
Low end online gaming on a budget - Faster wireless card plus db gain aerial
Online gaming general - Mains adapter plugs
Online gaming heavy - High-End mains adapter plugs
Online gaming nutter - Move PC next to router, use shortest cable possible, overclock the CPU, use your tropical fish tank as the cooling source for your overclocked processor. smile

Yes we have all that (except the fish tank laugh )

I always find that the bottle neck in my household is the actual speed of the internet.

If its just a normally PC then there should be room for a wireless card.

All you need is an empty PCI slot, or are able to remove a PCI card you don't need/use anymore (amazing how many still have modems in).

Can you bring the machine with you when you come down.

Most of the 755 will take PCI cards unless its a SFF case in which case they have to be half height.

Might be able to sort something.......if not, dongle it.

I switched to power line adaptors on mine and have never looked back, I've used pci cards and dongle but with these I had far too many drop outs since I switched to the power line's I don't get any.
The biggest problem with the pci card is it is at the back of the pc and once you put it in an enclosed space you weaken you signal. Hope this helps.
Beanie.
