neeeded a bulb changing on a toyota mr2 , bit of a pain you have to strip loads of things apart under 'bonnet' to get to headlamp assembly [engine is in back of car] . after doing all the hard work dismantling i then went to toyota for a bulb , £17 haha wtf ?? but they said they would throw it in as it was all stripped it down - it just needed clipping in really easy , so reluctantly said yeh even tho i knew i could get the bulb elswhere for half that price or less . seemed straight forward 1 minute job , but after 20+ mins the mechanic couldnt clip in the bulb so his manager said id have to book it in !!! there was a manager , a mechanic and 3 others observing and they cant fit a bulb ? nobody could simply take charge of the issue , get the bulb , and clip it in . unbelieveable ! it aint rocket science .

i mean that does not inspire confidence in toyota wallasey ... if that they cannot fit a bulb , how could they service a car ?

so drove to kings street wallasey , long established old place called "battyre" . guy gave great service , grabbed the bulb walked out to car and fitted it within 30 seconds flat . cost .... £6 !!!! surely it should in theory have been even easier for a toyota mechanic who works on these cars each day to do the same ? so if you need consumables for your car id recommend battyre in kings street wallasey for a decent reliable guy at realistic prices .

Been in and out of Battyre for close on 50 years now. Unfortunately they don't manage to find bits for Ford Pops any more.

Believe it or not mechanics don't spend all day fitting bulbs to old Mr2's in fact the mechanic that fitted yours has probably only fitted about 2 in his whole time working there. And if its quite fiddly and you have the owner of the car watching you it adds to the difficulty and the more you struggle, the more frustrated you become, which makes the job even more difficult.

People are quick to criticise these days very rarely do you see a message praising people's work.

After reading this post I had to reply, I have a few points to make.

The 3 men that you refer to are valeters which you know because the were all cleaning cars when you first came.

If its not rocket science why did you tell us you had been trying to fit it for 4 hours on your driveway?

How many old mr2s do you really think come into johnsons?? Less than 10 a year so it's not every day.

It was one of the valeters who told you to go to battyre and explained were it was, which we didn't have to do.

The mechanic was in the middle of working on a car which was booked in the correct way, he tried to help and when he couldn't he offered you the tools to finish the job.

It seems you are annoyed with YOURSELF because you wasted a whole day trying to fit a bulb, and have decided to have a rant on here slating Toyota.

I've been to johnsons and the service is always spot on, Looks like you didn't like the outcome of one visit to the garage so you've thrown a wobbler. Can't stand idiots like you who act nice until they have to spend some money. It's not rocket science yet you couldn't manage it yourself? I suggest you spend less time making shit forums and spend more time practicing bulb fitting, considering 'it ain't rocket science'

Does seem that you have shot yourself in the foot here Tharobster. If it is the simple job that you say it is why not do it yourself especially if as you say you had taken it all apart anyway.

actually of the 3 young lads who where razzing the owners 2013 toyota coupe round the back of workshop , i didnt ask what their roles where . why would i ?

to clip in a bulb . fundamentals . its on par with asking an electrician to wire an everyday mains plug and them not knowing .

chorizo: the thread started as praise for battyre but admin changed the title as you can see from follow up post of mine . i dont know why . glad it fits your criteria of praise post .

as for the 2 toyota staff posts it would have been better to spend your subsequent working hours looking how to fit a toyota bulb not f'ing and blinding and calling customers idiots . its not my job to know how, its yours . i was happy to spend £17 on your bulb that cost toyota under a £1 .

it should be a simple job BY A TRAINED MECHANIC to clip in a bulb . i dont think thats an unreasonable assumption . im not a mechanic . however it was confirmed how simple i believed it to be when shown by a real bloke in the know . battyre 20 seconds , toyota fail in 20-30 mins.

i think its fair to go back to orig post and repeat - if a toyota trained mechanic [with his manager observing at times] cant fit a light bulb what confidence does it inspire to service a car ?
