My parents are looking at getting a new bathroom fitted in the very near future. Can anyone recommend any bathroom fitters? They visited cavalier bathrooms today and were wondering if anyone had used them and would they recommend them? Or any other reputable companies.
Thank you

Hi, I would recommend GBW plumbing.

Use to own Plumb-it on Acre Lane bromborough.

Also beware anyone who can do it NOW, a good one will be booked up for a bit normally.

We used M.Chadwick Plumbing on a recomendation by Embees Bathroom Supplies in Wallasey. We had to wait a few months as he was booked up but it was well worth the wait. We are delighted with it.We had it done 4 years ago and it still looks fantastic the tiling and finish are pristine.Go to Embees and have a look around.they will have his details.

Thank you. Will pass on. We went into embees today to have a look. My mum has some ideas of what she wants but needs a bit more adbice on what she can fit in the bathroom. She also went into a place in west kirby that had a tap for £1500 so I think she'll be avoiding them!

My bathroom cost £6.500 completed.fully tiled floor and walls. All top quality products used.I am only telling you the price so you can use it as a guide so you dont get ripped off. you said your mum had been to a place where taps alone cost £1500.

Having been in the building trade for 40 years I have been involved with so many bathrooms I've lost count.

I do not consider £6500 as a guide I consder it very expensive even with top quality products.

What is a top quality product at the end of the day white goods only change by shape/style and then a fancy name is put on it they must all conform to a standard.
Buying the hardwear taps etc is important to make sure they are user friendly.

Tiles generally if you buy Porcelain tiles only you will know they are porcelain, new methods of production mean that ceramics have come into a world of there own. Do not buy tiles from the big retail outlets size, shape and colour matching problems. If I would recommend a tile supplier it would be Wirral Coast Tiles.

My wife loves Embee's thats fine if she is paying,Why I ask myself ego what would you prefer Embee's or Discount/Bargain bathrooms outside your house.

All products on display at any number of these high end stores are available elsewhere and online a lot cheaper.

Remember take control have it done your way not what is easy for the fitter.Nail them down on price get it in writing.

Agree if they are good you will have to wait I had a lady who waited 2 years !!! Good luck

Salty, sounds like common sense to me.

I too will be in the market for a full bathroom re-fit / tile job some time in the next 6 months and the common sense approach is that which I will take

I had several quotes before deciding and the one I chose stripped out my whole bathroom down to bare brick,I had new electrics, replastering, good quality fittings, full shower enclosure.plus assessories.I only quoted price because the person asking for advice said her mum had been quoted 1500 just for a tap.I would advise anyone to write down everything they require then work out cost.I have nothing to gain from the advice I gave.Just so glad I used the tradesman I did.Because in my previous house I Had used someone who was a plumber but certainly was no good at plastering or tiling and left my electrics unsafe.I had to have it stripped out and all redone. so I make sure now that anyone doing work for me is qualified in all aspects of the work I want doing.

Valli, you have hit the nail on the head. Alas we do not have many TRADESMEN left and far to many chancers, see my post what is a tradesman.
Again £6500 is not a typical price by reposting you now say you replastered new electrics etc,not the norm.

I do not generally get involved in bathroons to much like hardwork but I will always try to help people, give advice at no cost.

We have a footballer on the wirral who wanted to pay £4600+vat for taps what did they do lighting changed the colour of the water as you filled the bath / basin I walked away from the job, idiot

Salty I only reposted cos of your comments, and to clarify why I had paid that price. you just looked at my original post and as you are able to do the job yourself thought it expensive, without asking what the job entailed.Your Wife Likes Embees bathrooms but having you,she can shop around for bargains and you can fit them professionally. My husband unfortunatly cant as he had a stroke and can no longer use his left side.

I had to wait eight months for the plumber to do my bathroom.Could have got another but the bathroom showroom staff said it was worth waiting. If you need his details I could dig them out in an old diary.

I visited lots of places both dear and cheap. Embees were off-hand so even if I liked their stuff I would not have used them. My uncle who was a tradesman always went there.

The tiles I liked were in Roberts in Argyle St in Birkenhead and I liked the German showers but had no idea what best to choose.

The plumber met me there and gave good advice. I decided on a German Shower which had most of the mechanism hidden behind tiles so it looks neat, and it had sufficient force without having to buy a power shower. The sink etc was choosen to fit my small bathroom and the tiling and floor for best fit.

When he did the job it was perfect and he employed his own tiler so I was pleased as both were good at their own trade.

Labour was not cheap but I paid the going rate.

I would not recommend GBW Plumbing..! They fitted a radiator for me and blew all the plaster work out of the wall and the pipework was disgusting.

Just out of interest, did you ask for it to be put right? and if so was it actually GBW or a sub-contractor? If you have issues I would look at website and contact them.

I have used them on 3 occasions and am waiting for job 4 to start soon, always polite, always clean up when done and really happy with everything they have done so far.
