What would you say have been the biggest new stories for the Wirral over the years? Suppose recently we have had the Olympic torch visiting and Jubilee parties but there must be some more notable events.

I know it's going back a few years but the Open Golf being held in Hoylake 2006 was a pretty amazing event, the fact that its back there again in 2014 can only be good for the Wirral.

I bet you had tears in your eyes Derek waving them off.

God help us,
Come yourself,
Don't send Jesus,

Remarkable achievement for a club of its size and resources, and marvelous to see 30,000 locals at Wembley.

Happy days indeed! yipee

The declaring of both World Wars (and the evacuation of children?)

The Commander of the Fort Perch Rock in World War II, Colonel C.J. Cocks claimed to have fired the first British shot of the War from Fort Perch Rock. A small fishing smack under sail in the Rock Channel could not be identified fifteen minutes after the War had started. A shot was fired at the boat causing panic to its crew. Luckily it was identified as friendly in time and allowed to sail into the estuary

Maybe the first private postal service started by two grocers in West Kirby in 1971...it was the first time the monopoly had been lifted and Jackson and Jackson grocers in Banks Road were the country's first private postmen
