Thought of the day

Someone explained to me yesterday, that the moon, the sun and the earth are the perfect size.If they were any different in size and distance from each other, we wouldn't have total solar or lunar eclipses. That is food for thought!

Have you got a thought of the day?

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.

Hi Granny yes it is amazing and it all goes much, much further.
The moon is the perfect size and distance from the earth to exert gravitational pull that controls the tides. The earth is the perfect distance from the sun to support water and therefore life. Nearer the sun it would be too hot, further away it would be too cold.
For an incredible insight into these things and much, much more watch Brian Cox's amazing series Wonders of the Universe, currently on Sky's Eden channel.

Fascinating !!..... So is it feasible that there could be other planets with their own moons and suns in exactly the right position to enable them to sustain life forms ??

Yes it is perfectly feasible and mathematically it is virtually a certainty.
Our sun is a star with its own solar system, including the earth and other planets orbiting around it.
The latest estimate of the number of stars in the observable universe is approximately 5 times the number of grains of sand on planet earth. These numbers are inconceivable.
Have a look at :

A light year is the distance between us and the sun and not a unit of time.

My thought of the day, is what my Dad wrote in my autograph book in 1956 when I was age ten:

'Today is the day we worried about yesterday, and all is well'

You are right that a light year is the distance that light travels in one year. But it only takes 8 minutes for the light from the Sun to reach us. A light year is 186,000 ( the speed of light in 1 second) x 60 x 60 x 24 x 365= 5,865,696,000,000 miles!

Don't put off until tomorrow, what you can do today, if you do it today and like it, you can do it again tomorrow.

God help us,
Come yourself,
Don't send Jesus,
This is no place for children.
