Aaahhhh Pablo, this photo brings back very happy memories of my dad taking us to new brighton in the car when me and my brother were kids, this is just how it looked back then, and we always took my Nan too, that's when New Brighton ''was''New Brighton! how time changes things! thank you for stirring the memories! chris.
I think the street lamps had new tops on them by the 80's, and then they all got replaced with Victorian style ones when the railings, flower beds and driveway bricks appeared on the road.
In the bottom right corner, the Ford Escort van (which looks quite new) carries a GCM registration. They were issued in 1957. Behind the van is a very rare Ford Consul Convertible
Don't think the convertible is a Ford Consul - it's too small and the Mk1 Consul didn't have a horizontal chrome bar across the grille. Can't say I know what it is, though... it looks familiar but I can't put a name to it...
Is the convertible this type? I think the horizontal bar is the sunlight reflecting on multiple vertical curved chrome bars. Looks continuous at that distance. Don't think there were many other similar cars around at the time.
