Does anyone know if there will be a third phase of development in New Brighton? I'm a local resident but have only been on the prom to see the development twice. I can't say I was very impressed with what I saw. As someone who has always wanted to see a new dawn for New Brighton, is this the best they can come up with - a retail park. I was very disappointed to say the least. Surely they are not just leaving us with this.

A casino should be opening in the summer. The empty building at the far end of the development (next to the model boat lake) was supposed to be the "lido", but Neptune couldn't get anyone interested to take a lease for that use. Council actually stuck to their guns for a long while saying it had to be used for leisure, but last I read it was to become a soft play area plus splash pool for kids. There was a planning application in to build flats on the next to the Floral, at the bottom of Victoria Parade. Not heard much more about it though. Last I heard the guy that owns the site between The Queens and what was Bobby's Bar has had separate plans for apartments and retail units knocked back.

This posting represents exactly what has been wrong with New Brighton for the past 20 years, negativity - glass half empty. Never happy, never grateful........don't mention job creation, the increase in visitors and ultimately an increase in spending locally, no let's just moan and say 'Is that all there is'???????? unbelievable. Yes I thought that too, of course we'd have loved to recreate the open air pool or something equally spectacular but I've been loads of times and it's a million times better than it was, it hasnt spoiled the area at all - there's still loads of open spaces at the dips and on the front for people to do what they always did there, except now we have somewhere to have a coffee and a bite to eat, somewhere to go see a movie, Home Bargains to buy cheap beach supplies like buckets and spades etc if we ever get a summer and a great supermarket that's giving Asda a run for its money! Lets not forget the jobs that have been created, albeit for people outside the area in many cases but give it time...locals will outnumber the people brought in to work here before very long I'm sure. Nice to see the artists impression is very similar to what we have there now, it's an attractive development. Let's hope Wirral Waters doesn't take as long to get off the ground as Marine Point did with all the opposition.

I think that these developments are the best thing to happen to New Brighton for years. After so many promises and let downs , we're seeing a lovely new theatre , a supermarket , cinema and much else. Give us a good summer(I know , I know)and we may see loads of people going to New Brighton and spending money . As missj said the waterfront & the dips are still there - with free parking - yes - free parking. For once , I think the glass is full. Let's enjoy it!

Don't really understand why you would go down to New Brighton with all the new (and old) places to eat and choose a burger van but each to their own!

Hi, i have to agree! I was walking my dog down at New Brighton yesterday and had a lovely chicken and bacon wrap of the buttie van! It was ideal seeing as though I would't be allowed in anywhere else with the dog! And I 'm also very fussy about what I eat and how its cooked! The van looked very clean to me and the staff very polite! What is wrong with people trying to make some money? At least they are not sitting around complaining they haven't got a job!!

I'm happy with the way New Brighton is going. I won't be trying the Hungry Horse though, or the van. The fact the van board stated they sold "Sandwish, burgers and 6 cans" was enough to put me off!
I'd rather pay a bit extra and eat in The Queen's & PDR and know I'm getting decent food cooked by real chefs, using local produce, instead of some pub chain where a lot is microwaved (I've worked in some so I know).

Does anyone know if there will be a third phase of development in New Brighton?
An application was passed for the land at the bottom of Victoria Road, next to the Floral and opposite the flats that once were the Chelsea Reach (ex Pier Hotel). This was at the end of March 2011 and read "24 apartments and 24 associated car parking spaces, plus 13 car parking spaces reserved for Floral Hall Theatre, with vehicular accesses from Virginia Road, and complementary hard and soft landscaping." The approval lasts for three years. It's got Neptunes name on it, and can be viewed at Wirral Planning App site. I happened to be at the public planning meeting that night and it appears that this was the third such application for appartments at that site. We were told that 'to do nothing was not an option' as no suitable plans had been forthcoming. (Before or after the toilets were 'accidently' demolished, I wonder?) The architects described this block as having a hint of Art Deco about it, while the critics of the plan claimed that it looked more like a small block of flats on the front of a Spanist tourist resort. We'll see.

A few people have the impression that I am one of those who is opposed to New Brighton's redevelopment. That could not be further from the truth but this development just doesn't have that "wow factor".
Where are the big attractions that will draw people into the town? There still isn't much there to do. As for the third phase being a block of flats, the last thing the town needs is more residential development.
What the town needs are attractions and facilities that will bring day trippers and holiday makers to the town. A retail park (because that's all it is)won't do that.

The Council were never going to allow NB to steal visitors that would otherwise have gone to West Kirby and it was never going to be able to compete with Southport let alone Blackpool.
As a seaside resort, there is little to do in New Brighton - and that may well be your point. But as a leisure and night spot, New Brighton now has more facilities, has the heritage and, perhaps just as importantly, an improvable reputation.
To my mind the best thing for New Brighton for a phase 'N' would be a new ferry terminal (even if it was only open in the summer) and reinstatement of the Wirral Show. Then expand as needed; pier etc.

What we have to do is make the most of what we have and make use the of facilities that are here to get the most out of them.
Too many people spend time wanting to bring back 'the good old days' and what New Brighton used to be. Petitioning for so called attractions like the pier ...... it would be too expensive. Lets be honest most seaside piers consist of a long walk and have a cafe and two slot machine businesses at the end, why spend thousands and thousands for that.
We have a fantastic Fort that's in need of repair, lets get behind Doug and support him to raise funds so that it can be restored to something fantastic.
We have an amazing Marine lake that hardly anyone uses, we should have sailing lessons for private individuals and free lessons for schools, dragonboat race competitions for charities, wakeboarding exhibitions and lessons.
Location wise we could have speedboat races, maybe we could replace the pier with a jetty where yachts could moor, it would be cheaper and local fishermen could sell local produce.
As they say, the possibilities are endless, if we can just have a bit more imagination!!

I thought it was nice, pointless but nice.
The fact you can now get a cheap drink and feed from morrisons is a bonus, rather than pay a pedo icecream man £1.20 a can..

Compared to what we had here 12 months ago New Brighton is fantastic and it's not finished yet! Give it a chance, we haven't even had a summer here since the new development yet. It's really busy on the front at weekends even now so it will be buzzing when the weather picks up. I love it, I'm sure it will get even better.

Just a pity they couldn't have stuck to an art-Deco or Victorian theme instead of styles of buildings that are more fitting in an inner city and not a seaside resort.

I like it except for the morrisons. I do t mind having a morrisons but it would have been better else where not on the front. The money could have been better spent. Personally I would have liked something like they have in Newcastle called The Gate. It's a set of indoor bars restaurants and cinema.

I live in new brighton and its great whats going on,but New Brighton is a dump.I took the dog out today and the amount of rubbish on the beach and on the dips is unreal. All the money they spent cleaning out the marine lake and now its full of sand again. Its only been 18 months since they refilled the lake and already its silted up again by the fort.Every month they clean the sand off the path, what a waste of time its needs sorting out soon or there wont be a marine lake.

We left England a number of years ago but had to pop back twice earlier this year..The second time back we brought my son and my dad with us and stayed in Travelodge right on the front in New Brighton.. We were all very impressed with the change, my dad who is 78 has seen alot of change over the years in New Brighton thought all the change was for the better.. Not one of us had any complaints from where we stayed and where we ate and we can't wait to come over again in the summer....

I agree its a disgrace, the council need to be on top of emptying the bins and generally cleaning up with more regularity. People need to make sure they dispose of there waste properly, i see far too many litter louts everywhere these days, have people no respect for their surorundings anymore

Why on earth are we stuck with a marine lake filled with filthy water when we could have had a decent swimming pool.
The comment about the variable weather is absolute tosh as there are plenty of places across the uk that have heated outdoor pools, for example there is one in the middle of Derbyshire in Hathersage.
The leisure centre that never was and the lido no bigger than a duck pond to be come skating rink.
