Anybody on here do car body work or can recommend someone ? Will shortly want some work doing to a '79 Vw Camper - general tidy up (both rear panels are warped so will need filler work, front panel needs paint due to screen wash getting behind the paint, few scabs etc.) From what i can see doesnt need much in the way of welding as has had new rear corners, front and rear arch's, front panel, both doors, boot and engine lid although will prob need a lower inner and outer sliding door panel letting in. Have had some paint made up already (have a litre of direct gloss and activator) as was going to do myself - lack of time (and motivation) makes me think better to let someone else do it !
Its not a rot box and has been restored in the past - i was never happy with the job though. Shouldnt be too many suprises as i know the van well.
Feel free to post on here or pm.
The van is in Greasby - looking for someone to come out to me to provide a quote ideally although it will be shortly MOT'd and back on the road.
Thanks !

A 79 camper - ha, a modern one. I had a 1963 splittie from 1969 until 1972 (hence the avatar) and then a new type 2 Bay Window Dormobile from '72 until 2002 ie 30 years and 350,000 miles. By 1972 the splittie had so much fibreglass in it I think it was non-magnetic! You could get away with fibreglass in those days. The '72 Type 2 had a lot of (amateur) welding and some professional (main chassis members) in the latter part of the 30 years. I think I knew every nut & bolt on the thing. Still, in 2002 I sold it for £3370 - which was EXACTLY twice what I paid for it in '72. In the following three years the guys who bought it went all around UK the first year, Through Germany to Greece in the next year and then Iberian peninsular another. I think the rust worm caught up with it then because it "went" off the DVLA records.

For bodywork these days I use

Thanks for all the replies.
Just wanted to update you all - i went with Alan at A Williams Auto Body Repairs in Wallasey (638 8017/ 07958 598167).
Collected the van yesterday and must say i am really impressed with his work! The quality of his repairs is excellent and the paint looks fantastic. All in all a really good experience.
Alan is a good bloke and his prices are very reasonable - he also has a genuine interest in older classics and owns some interesting motors!
If anyone contacts him after reading this thread - let him know Barry recommended him!
Cheers.
