got a Dell Inspiron One touch screen given to me as faulty, its faulty as in won't turn on it had a power surge go through it and i'm thinking is it just a power supply unit i need or is it totally knackered???

Hi Nickie Firstly, have you checked the fuse in the plug ? If this is OK then you will need to try changing the battery, which of course means borrowing or buying one. If it's neither of these then chances are you will need a new Power Supply Unit (PSU) and /or a new battery. If it was a big power surge then it may involve other components too and you would probably need to take it to somebody for diagnosis and/or repair.

Yeah Kenmo i have checked the fuse but no joy, i was thinking about the psu but not sure where best to take it so someone can have a look at it for me. Any idea's
