A WIRRAL man who dropped a cigarette butt
onto a pavement has been fined more than £500. The matter came before Birkenhead Magistrates
Court this week but the defendant, a Wallasey
resident, failed to attend. In his absence, he was fined £125 and ordered to
pay £385 in costs and a victim surcharge of £15 –
a total of £525. www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/9339362....issues_fine_over_dropped_cigarette_butt/

Good. Dropping ciggie butts is lazy, selfish and bad for the environment. If this money is put towards libraries, care for the elderly, children's centres etc then even better.

So, the £500 fine was not just for the littering but also for not appearing when required.

On the original subject, don't see why dropping a cigarette butt should be treated any differently to dropping any other litter, all littering is anti social

liverpool have got the right idea they have plenty of bins available with the place on top to stump them out, if this was sped up in wallasey it would make a big difference, not thast all will follow the rules, it drives me mad at ashville when i see people not using the sand bin a few steps away

as for the dog shitting, some horrible git walks his dog around ashville which is private property and allows it to shit on the pitch. an air rifle will be soon issued to shoot the owner and the dog if seen trespassing.....be warned haha

The title for this thread is completely misleading.

How about a 10p extra charge on every ciggie? When you've finished with the butts [hahaha!] you can take them back to a central collection point where you get 9p for every butt. The other penny going to administrating the scheme. So 20 ciggie butts would get you £1.80. Only a fool would then throw a butt on the floor in the first place. And if they did, no doubt some homeless person would pick them up instead. Problem solved.

If you drop it down a grid its not considered littering.

i also wreckon to helpprevent this litter, welfare claimants should be paid in food tokens so they can not buy ciggys or alcohol, that would prevent this problem by 70% on the wirral alone
