As The World Tipped (part of Liverpool's Reflection on the Waterfront celebration)
Visiting
Main Cathedral and Grounds

30th - 31st July 2011
22:00 (each day)
An awe-inspiring disaster movie about the consequences of climate change will be performed against the backdrop of the Cathedral for two nights in July.

As the World Tipped combines dramatic video visuals with aerial performance
to highlight the issue of climate change, and will be performed by the city’s own Wired Aerial Theatre.

Wired have joined forces with world-renowned artistic director Nigel Jamieson – the man behind the hugely successful opening ceremony for Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture year in 2008. The action centres on the secretariat of the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, where staff fail to notice as the world around them literally slides towards disaster.

Suspended 20 metres above the audience in the night sky, the performers struggle to control their increasingly precarious world as they do battle with the effects of environmental catastrophe.

The dramatic scenes will be acted out by a ten-strong cast.

No tickets are required and access to the Cathedral and to the performance is FREE. Car parking is pay on exit

The event has been commissioned by the city council and Liverpool Primary Care Trust as part of the Decade of Health and Wellbeing. The performance highlights one of the key aims of the Decade as Liverpool strives to become a greener city, with a healthy environment and a lower carbon footprint.

The climate themed entertainment begins with special performances within the Cathedral on both evenings, and The Welsford and Mezzanine cafés will both be welcoming guests throughout the evening. Ahead of the show the Cathedral will also play host to stalls such as Faiths 4 Change and Energy Project Plus, where visitors can find out about energy saving and how to be more green.

Please note: The Cathedral will be open throughout the day and into the evening right up to the start of the spectacular show at 10pm. The tower will remain open for fabulous city views until last tickets at 9pm. There will be plenty to enjoy during all of this time, including having a meal or a drink. Entry to the main show will be via the main Cathedral entrance.

I was there, and though the cathedral was quite quiet during the evening (I didn't spot any of the special performances inside referred to) the main event outside was indeed spectacular, and well attended. Sound quality was a bit muffled near the back where I was, but the acrobatics and projections really packed a punch. Beautiful mild evening for it, too. It's well worth going along and watching the show which is on again Sunday evening - it was very cleverly done, and must have been a lot of hard work for all involved. Cathedral cafe served until after 9pm I think, and there were a couple of burger-type vans (and an ice-cream van!) outside.

Down the side of the cathedral on the campus - £3. They didn't let the cars start moving out until the pedestrians had cleared through but that didn't take long. It finished around 10.45 and I was indoors by 11.25 and that included my obligatory lap of Liverpool lost as my sat nav is out of date raftl

Very hard to describe tbh.
Stage starts horizontal with some dialogue then the world ends and stage becomes vertical and the "actors" are on bungees against the moving backdrop of the stage which makes them appear to be on a film screen.
There is definitely a political message that we need to stop abusing the planet but it was very good.

Best view actually was from the lane at bottom of Cathedral Car Park. I saw most of it and was glad it was not me in the performance.Visually was stunning both from the performance artists and the lighting effects of giant waves, people on toppling buildings and running up walls etc.
It reminded me of the Ringo night at St Georges Hall when I think the same team were involved.
