My mum told me years abo about 2 elderly sisters who owned a shop somewhere near that Saddle Inn pub in Wallasey. One day they were in the shop alone and this youth (could have been their son) beat them up, murdered them and nailed them to the floor! This was years ago, so it just shows. Does anyone remember this? confused

It was April/ May 1978 and it was on Greenwood Lane. The murderer was (I think) their lodger. They had been usherettes at one of the old Wallasey cinemas years before.

I don't remember anything else, apart from the horrific detail Aegean referred to (the nailing to the floor). I think they lived in a corner house (Greenwood Lane/Brook Street on the Martin's Lane side).

Yes, it was a corner house (shop?) Apparently they had been found after a few days and their skin had stretched taut, sorry about that if its too graphic!

I was slated for mentioning this once where I used to work, no-one believed me!

this was more 73, it was around the same time as a girl got attacked by a hammer in the street. They thought it was linked at the time.

*edited she was attacked by someone with a hammer, not just a random hammer on its own, lol. *

I remember that this particular double murder took place in 1978 for personal reasons. But there may well have been something equally horrific in 73.

Another one I recall was a body being found in the lake in Central Park, possibly 76 or 77. There's clearly been a lot of violent crime in Wallasey.

I remember not so long ago the story of someone found hanging in the swings in Earlston Park (by library), very sad but imagine if you were the person to find this scene? Dont remember the one in the lake.

Thanks goodness someone else remembers the Hammer Man! I remember it at the time (though was very young then) and then talking about it as a teenager with friends. I was beginning to think we had made it up! blush

The Hammer man was around in 1971 or 72, he attacked a girl in Marsden Road just before Christmas, fortunateley she survived OK, at the time I lived in Poole Road, just around the corner from where the attack took place. The police visited and interviewed me 3 times as the attack took place at the same time as I was coming home from my mates house. I think the bloke that done it was from Seacombe where a couple of other attacks took place, as far as I know he was caught and sent down.

Think the one in central park was done by a lad named Roberts who coincidently had a brother who also murdered someone. They were strange even as kids.
