A woman died this morning after being struck by a train near a railway crossing at Manor Road in Hoylake.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “The woman, who has yet to be identified, was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital where she later died as a result of the injuries sustained."

Police are not treating the death as suspicious and will now assist in the compilation of a report for the coroner.

The train involved was the 5.51am West Kirby to Liverpool loop service.

Nightmare. Probably a dog walker or a suicide at that time I'd imagine.

I wondered why there was a rail replacement bus on all morning.

Lots of incidents at that crossing in the past few years...

Thoughts go out to the family... and the train driver!

So sad. Yes, tragic for the family indeed and thoughts go out to them. Also as polo_phil says, think of how the motorman is feeling. He'll never forget that for the rest of his life. Every time he goes over that crossing ......

There is little wrong with the crossing, it just needs to be treated with the care it deserves. Trains are either slowing down for, or accelerating from, the Station at that point. A couple of years ago a dog was killed there because the gates had been left open. The very next day I was down there, a car stopped, the driver got out and opened the gates, he then drove across and carried on. I closed the gates after crossing myself. When I caught up to him I pointed out that he had left the gates. He responded that it was OK as his friend was coming over shortly!!!!
The only exceptions are the non scheduled trains which have been stabled at West Kirby. The problem of these would be resolved if they were to slow down at each crossing as well as sounding their horns.

There is definitely an increase in accidents there. I don't know why. You can clearly see both Hoylake and Manor road stations from it. You would have to be suicidal or very very careless to get hit by a train there. People must get very blasé about safety if they cross it every day.

In this pro elfin safety society they probably expect the train to stop for them!

That is partly my theory too. Theres no longer personal responsibility and its always someone else's fault. If something happens you can just file a lawsuit. It doesn't help however when youre lying in your cold grave.

It doesn't matter what you do you won't stop a jumper. The others who can't be bothered looking and listening are the authors of their own misfortune, natural selection.
