I assume you mean rotor tips due to carbon wear or similar?

Yeah, Rhys was lookin at about £3k+ for a rebuild on his RX8 (im sure he said you could do it yourself and it didnt look too bad a job, but parts where still prohibitively expensive and he couldnt be arsed with the hassle), the RX7's don't last as long iirc due to the turbo, and the MPG is just abysmal. He sold it to a garage part-ex in the end, and let them take on the impending problems.

The RX7 is a gorgeous car and the rotory engine is amazing, but the term moneypit comes to mind.

You quite often see them going cheap, and its usually because they require a rebuild. They just dont last long, and are hurt even moreso by people who drive them like normal cars (keeping the revs below 4000 etc).

Ste, as Matt said if its the rotor tips your refering to in the wankel engine then rebuilds can be expensive

The rotor tips wear and are the most common reason for engine failure. The tips last around 60,000 miles in standard tune but can last longer, or indeed shorter depending on the life they've led. These days RX-7 engines are rebuilt using the more modern RX-8 rotor tips, as well as a range of high performance rotor tips being available if you've got the monies. Rebuilds of the 13B engine start at around £2500 - undoubtedly a large sum of money but compare this with the cost of rebuilding say a Skyline's RB26DETT engine - both have similar performance.

Cool thanks guys, I can do this myself, I just need to know where to get know where to get the tips, it's not worth replacing 1, may as well do all.
Need a price before commitment.
Had a look on eBay with no results.

Yes, set of six.

Quite a lot of choice, from what I've gleaned.

original RX7 rotor seals good for 50K mile, and probably cause least wear/damage to the rotor housing.

Ceramic rotor seals last a lot longer but cost four times the price and can have a occasional tendancy to shatter (especially on turbos), destroying everything in sight.

Various people make alternative rotor seal kits (some include genuine Mazda springs in the price)

Do a search for "Apex seals" which is the proper name for the seals.
