psn seems to be down again

The PlayStation Network has been back with us for around two weeks now without the full service being resumed. Now today we have new reports of Sony’s PSN down again on May 29 in the US and parts of Europe. Many PlayStation 3 owners found problems again this morning when trying to sign into the network.

The service has only just recently gone live in Japan and it was hoped that the PlayStation Store would be back by Tuesday, according to an article on Judge Game. Luckily Sony has not left it long before responding to the problems. They have said that some users may experience problems signing in, as they are working on restoring the full PSN service.

It hasn’t been said how long the service may be down for but it should mean we finally see the PlayStation Store back online. This will also mean that you will be able to start accessing the free downloads offered by Sony.

At the time of writing we have reports of some areas in Europe the service is down, but some of our readers in the UK have confirmed it is available. Is the PSN service working in your area?

Well at least Lulzsec aren't skiddies. That should make Sony feel a bit better.

Some good news has come from the well publicised PlayStation Network outage that Sony and its users were hit by last month. Not only has full service been restored, 3 arrests have been made over the most notorious cyber theft in history.

The hackers broke into Sony’s network and made off with the personal details of over 80 million users, if that was not bad enough it caused almost a month of frustration for eager gamers as they could not play online. According to Electric Pig, 3 suspects have been arrested in Spain, all being members of the hacking activist group “Anonymous”.



During the crisis which saw millions of users offline, Anonymous publicly spoke out and claimed that they were not behind the attack. With many taking their word for it and focusing their attention on finding a solo mastermind thief, it appears that the men in masks may have been telling porkies after all. The Spanish law are holding the 3 suspects with more arrests expected. Sony should now beware of a new threat posed by LulzSec.

This has been somewhat a bonus as the suspects have also been connected to various other cyber crime such as on Spanish banks and an Italian energy firm. The Huffington Post has reported that the hackers were rumbled after it was discovered that a computer server in one of their homes was used to take part in cyber attacks on a number of targets including Sony

Bit of a weird story, considering that literally anyone can call themselves Anonymous.

I think the journalist should have researched that a bit more - AnonOps said they they never touched Sony's internal servers which was true. The thousand or so that follow AnonOps didn't - these guys did instead.
