HEARTLESS youths stole vital donations from a Wirral farm last night.

The gang broke into Tam O’Shanter's Urban Farm at around 8.30pm to take the cash left in a special donations box.

It is thought the box contained around £20 - but the incident has left warden Andrew McCulloch angry as the farm relies on the public’s generosity.

Mr McCulloch, whose home is within the farm's grounds, said: “I was putting my son to bed when I noticed youths outside.

"It’s not a lot of money that has been taken but the cost of repairing the damage is much greater.

“This sort of thing has happened before and it has got to stop."

He said the farm is an integral part of the local community: "I hope the culprits realise that they have done wrong and will stay away and not do it again.

"Tam O’ Shanter receives contributions from Wirral Council but we rely on donation from visitors for everyday costs."

Police have been informed and CCTV footage is being sought.

Neighbourhood Inspector Roy McGregor said: "It is completely unacceptable that a valuable community resource such as this has been targeted in this way.

"Organisations like Tom O'Shanter rely heavily on public support for financial aid, and officers are working hard to find those responsible."

Anyone with information can call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2342.

As much as I'm skint and I mean skint, I would never think to rob a donations/charity box.

Horrible people.

make your blood boil but at least this time it was only cash, i remember when i had to explain to my son how the thugs had covered the massive pig they used to have there and set it on fire, it died an awful death!
i was there only the other month and theres only half the animals they used to have, i think its only a matter of time before we'll lose that place, it'd be a shame.

Sadly, given the area it's in, things like this are going to keep happening. The farm needs a security guard stationed there all night but they probably don't have the money. Even less now the ... took the charity box.

its not the area that the farm is in thats the problem as all the local kids grow up with fond memories of the farm and are protective of it, its kids visiting from other areas that do the damage and unless things have changed (i maybe wrong)the keeper used to get the cottage rent free so someone is there for some security, maybe more fencing (electric!) is needed!

Twunts! yes i think we are going to lose this place soon, and what a shame that would be.
Trouble is even if they catch someone, they seem to just get a caution or a small fine.

An excellent idea tankrat! Just found a link to send a donation to:-

http://www.tamoshanterfarm.org.uk/donate.htm

I haven't been to the farm for years, but I think it's vital to give them some help. Sounds like they need all the help they can get. If all the "regulars" on wiki sent a couple of beer tokens (say £5.00p) it would help them keep such a valuable place going for all to enjoy.
