Its happened to me before. I scrapped my first car (red Ford Escort D981 NMB) in 1997 as it was a shed and according to one mechanic a death trap. It was took away by a scrap dealers also from Cleveland street, I got £40 for it. 3 years later I drive past it parked up on Elm road by st Cathrines hospital, with a baby seat in the back.
I don't remember what paperwork was or was not signed at the time I was just young naive and wanted rid of the old nail asap.

Was it silver?

You "Presumed" .... Never presume. If it was the car I'm thinking of it was actually sold to a garage not the scrappy.

Yeah, I remember having a d Reg escort ghia, the d & e Reg ones seemed to have had a major rust problem due to being left in the compound for so long near saltwater. The one I had was literally crumbling away, deffo a deathtrap. That was scrapped. (properly) smirk

The one I had was completely orange with rust undernieth and various panels didn't quite fit due to badly repaired collision damage.

Forgive me if im being obtuse...
your car was in need of repair as a non-runner and for you to repair it was uneconomical...
but you sold said car for £140 notes...and now someone fixed said car and sold it...and now you arent happy?
would it not have been prehaps a little more prudent to check on the actual cost of repairs ie got several quotes....
and is your basic grasp of ownership so poor that the mere concept that someone has had the foresight to repair said vehicle and sell it on NOT a breach of any ownership law?
sorry if im being a little obtuse here but what exactly IS your problem? someone made some money on your car?...its called business last time I checked.... and its what is necessary to generate money which the tax man ulitmately claws back to pay for fuckwits to have yet more kids!
sorry il get off my soapbox now..rant over

Who rattled your cage...

I didn't reply to this cos it was my wife who started this conversation and shes the one who bothers postin on here. She was the one upset while I was in work and it doesn't help by people who she thought was decent on here coming up with comments like shes read on here.

For starters, the correct paperwork was filled out. If I remember correctly, there was a box to cross saying it was getting scrapped. When the man came, we asked with regards to scrapping it. He said it would be took apart for parts. I know this because he said it is uneconomical to repair. He gave us the forms which we presumed were to say thats its lot. Yes, niave but we've never scrapped a car before.

Secondly, Whats with the comment about kids??? Not sure what your problem is but she isn't coming on here agin to be insulted by people she thought she could get advice from. I've read some of the stuff that goes on on here........

Do me a favour mods - remove her from this site please

Seems quite a straightforward question to me, and it seems like he is a sore-loser. He decided to take the easy route and sell the car, instead of fixing it (or at least didnt have the funds to do so), the person/business that bought it, has the right to do exactly what they want with it, if they want to fix it up and sell it on, thus making a profit in the process, that is their decision. I've bought plenty of cars in my time, at ridiculous low prices, almost to the point where ive felt guilty paying such little amounts; if I decide to then sell that car on at a higher price, then it is no business of the former owner. Especially if they need to sell fast, I have the wods of cash sitting there to get them out of their hole when they most need it, I don't expect them to come back moaning when they have recovered financially and say "I want the difference you sold the car for as it was mine and I sold it to you cheaper than market value" - nope, my name was on the V5, not the previous owners.

What would he do if he were to sell a car to a deal part-ex for less than the book price, only to drive past a few days later and see it on the forecourt for almost double what they paid him in part-ex value, go in and kick off.

A dealer/mechanic/scrappy takes a risk every time they buy a car, they may not make back what they paid for it, depending on the car, im pretty sure they don't go kicking off on customers asking for more money on the odd occasion they lose money on a deal.

The guy couldn't afford to fix it/felt it was uneconomically viable, they bought it off him, they did him the favour, not the other way round. They may have been quoted £500+ to fix the car, the scrapyard owner may have incurred costs of less than half that, that doesnt mean the former owner should get the difference back.

sounds perfectly fine to me. there's a lot of yards round here that do exactly the same.

if the car is too good to break, most will fix up and sell on
