Does anyone have any idea where we stand with this? We had a Renault Clio (x reg) which to cut a long story short, the cam belt went on it along with pistons ect. We were given a large quote to fix so decided it should meet it's maker.

We rang around from scrapyards for prices and in the end was given just £140 from one on cleveland st. They came on a flatbed, filled out the forms which I presumed was to say it was being scrapped, also the V5 slip and took it away. We aslo asked the lad who took it would it be stripped down and he said yes.

We received confirmation from the DVLA that we were no longer the registered keepers and that was that.

Then on Sunday, we were at West Kirby boot sale and pulled up to our old car in the car park! I asked the man with it if he knew it's history and he said no, but he paid £1100 from a scrapyard on Cleveland St who sells cars. He has taken our name and number and is looking into it now but where do we stand, if anywhere???

The car was sold on the understanding it was going to be scrapped and it looks like they have just chucked an engine into it and sold it on. I am scouring the house looking for the signed paper that we got from them but don't know what more can be done. It is more probrably down to the man now who bought it off them?

We are so annoyed.........

You sold it to them, assuming the paperwork is correct they can do what they want with it

We sold it on the understanding it was to be scrapped, otherwise we could have just got it fixed ourselves and sold it on if we'd have had the means.

What's with the ads in the papers stating make sure it is legally scrapped.....

withthat

Unless they gave you a certificate of destruction, what exactly do you expect to happen? Are you expecting the scrapyard to give you some more money or something?? Or are you expecting to get the car back?

Which you chose not to do, and somebody else obviously saw the potential for a quick fix and profitable sale.

I fail to see the problem. Did they hold a gun to your head and tell you to accept the 140 notes or summit??

is will they have any comebacks after they surpose scrap it.
I had a bad expirence with a scrap yard dealer in cleveland street over my ford fista car.Like reciving paying fine, speeding tickets this was after i sold the car for scrap.
This was about six years ago.

There are 2 seperate sections on the V5 (there are more, but only these 2 are of concern here) - the green slip for selling the car, and I think the Yellow part for scrapping the vehicle.

If you wanted the car scrapped, then the yellow section should have been filled out - that way the car would have to have been destroyed by your wishes.

If you just gave them the whole V5, then they could do what they want with the car.

Unfortunatly ignorance isnt an excuse frown

Im not saying what they did was right, and they where not honest with you, but at the end of the day if the paperwork checks out there will be no comeback frown

If you have this document, you must have signed the change of ownership part of the V5.
So you are no longer legally responsible for the vehicle

Unfortunately it's not having the readies to do jobs that lets us fall into these deals, just part of lifes rich tapestry. I was trumped selling my house and it does get up your nose. Just put it behind you and get on with it, that's what I'm doing.

I can understand your sentiments as you appear to have been conned - but if you step back - so what - you got the money you agreed to.

A BIG plus is the car has been recycled in the best possible way instead of being shredded and the bits left to rust away on the liverpool dockside for years.

Lol so many mugs out there.

You have obviously filled the wrong forms out on the v5.

By the way, it would of been cheaper putting a new engine in it.

Next time ask advise instead of going straight to a garage.
My bird was recently quoted £550 to put a gearbox in her Mgzr, rip off merchant spotted, I'm doing it myself.
