is due to sail up the Mersey and past Cammell Lairds today between 11 and 11.15am. it will give a gun salute to the shipyard before it heads south to be de-commissioned.

She's actually going up to Campbeltown in Scotland for a week first before going to be decommissioned. My friend is the XO onboard

At the moment, it looks like she'll be scrapped, but that might all change - you just never know until the first rivet's removed. Either way, it's bloody sad

Another shipbuilding custom thats never changed is, where the last rivet goes. Traditions must be kept.

Hiya Bert, you don't receive the golden rivet, you look for it and it is usually at deck level, for the uninitiated so to speak. The reward is received when you bend over to look closely at it. Ouch! There is a fine example of one in the RNA Club, Park Road East. Just ask where it is and you can have a look at it.
When you think about it seafarers of any persuasion are a mad bunch of b......s.

I also took my dad for a look around the ship on Saturday.Worked on it in Lairds and did the sea trials on her etc. She was in very good condition and its a shame its just going to be scrapped.
