In the 70's myself, my Brother, Sisters and Cousins used to often go to New Ferry Baths with my Mother and Aunt and what happy times we had there. I have some photo's but I can't post them as there is family members on them all.
The water was ice cold and it was always packed!
I remember my Mother buying me a white costume and my Cousin had the same.
Each time we went male teenagers used to sit by us, there was twins with dark hair and most handsome too but our Mothers kept a watch on us.
I used to sneak off home to meet my Husband, then of course boyfriend, despite my Mothers protests.
What happy memories!

We too used to go to Byrne Avenue Baths. My hair was so long I could sit on it, so Mum made me wear a bathing hat. My Cousin used to have problems with her ears and she too had to wear one lol. We had flowers on ours so we were posh lol.
It all only seems like yesterday but what happy memories we were making back then for our future.

Ahh such memories!...I too used to go there with me mum an family an friends,we'd all go there en masse-a gaggle of mums, brood of kids an a scramble of push-chairs piled high with towels, blankets to sit on, butties an flasks! mums would sit on the blankets with tea an catch up on goss- although it wasn't called that then - it was called 'watchin ova you!' I too nearly drowned in the shallow end of the little pool, surrounded by crisp packets an other debri.. I went up the diving board looked down an backed out!-had to squeeeze me way back down past the never endin queue! I also rememba bein sent to get some hot water from the cafe for more tea for the mums-that floor was so wet n slippy nearly broke me neck!-no health n safety in them days ha ha! oh such lovely memories!...

A friend of mine (alias arfurfxsake)remembers goin to these baths as a kid, he was a rather slim kid and he sat tremblin wrapped up in his towel gatherin up the courage to join his friends in the water, to his mum sayin "go on,go on, go on.."
He threw his towel off an legged it accross the grass , only to stand on an upturned bottle top which embedded itself into the sole of his foot..! he did manage to prise it off but still has the circular scar today!
