The suspect item, which was identified as an illume mortar - or "illumination mortar round" used in battle to turn night into daytime - had been spent but some remnants of explosive remained.
For safety, the round was disposed of in a controlled explosion.
It is not believed that the illumination mortar dated as back far as World War II, although it was obsolete.
The recycling centre has been reopened.

it will be some one elderly relative has been storing it in their house when they've died there relatives come out the woodwork looking for the loot but found bombs instead

Not necessary the grey bin stuff, could have been one of the small wagons that collect rubbish out of the jiggers
