i used to live in priory road , just at the back of those houses , my uncle used to live in that one with the cladding. The new wall replaced, if i remember rightly, a set of stone steps , that you could access at both sides , then met at the middle , that then led to a pathway that ran up the hill towards the houses , if that makes any sense
Those steps , and that hill , and the COSA to the left of this pic , and Demesne St park to the right , are where i spent a lot of my mispent youth...... great days...... i think the pic called " chips 25p" is the COSA roof and that sign was painted there for the tall ships crowds, unbelievable how much that stretch of prom has changed in recent years.

I too spent most of my younger days in that area , born in Chapel Street off Desmesne Street (1940) moved to Moreton in 1955

It used to look like a bridge over what looked like a waterfall although on reflection, it was probably meant to be a wave crest?!
In the space that was bricked up used to be some victorian toilets or am I mistaken? They were very run down by the 70's and were removed and the brickwork put up?
I have confirmed this on older maps, the steps were still in place after 1970 and appear on aerial photography in Dec 2007.
There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. David Osland 2025
