The Hexagon
Sleeping Beauty

Sat 4 Dec 2010 - 2 Jan 2011

We are delighted to announce children's TV legend Justin Fletcher is to star in panto in Reading this Christmas.

Justin will be playing the role of Josh the Jester in this years panto Sleeping Beauty at The Hexagon, he will be joined by Leah Bracknell (Emmerdale) and Jane Tucker (Rainbow).

Justin said he was delighted to have landed the role, which is a new production from Imagine Theatre, one of the UK's leading pantomime and theatre production companies.

He said: "I'm Reading born and bred so this is such a thrill for me. It's the first time in more than ten years I am not going to be away from my home town working over Christmas, so I am really looking forward to being in front of so many people in such a great panto".

Continuing the tradition of spectacular family panto at the Hexagon, Imagine Theatre is delighted to present one of the best loved pantomimes around, “Sleeping Beauty”, an enchanting mix of music, magic, adventure and pantomime fun. Join us for this sparkling production with all the usual pantomime ingredients – spectacular scenery and sparkling costumes, corny jokes, hilarious slapstick and bags of audience participation.

Some feedback from last years Sleeping Beauty:

“A lively script, sumptuous costumes and oodles of comedy” – The Stage on Sleeping Beauty at the Lyceum Theatre, Crewe 2009
“hugely entertaining” – The Stage on Sleeping Beauty at the Lyceum Theatre, Crewe 2009
“provides young and old with the panto-time of their lives” – Glasgow Herald on Sleeping Beauty at the Palace Theatre, Kilmarnock 2009
“Marvellous.” – The Stage on Sleeping Beauty at Lougborough Town Hall 2007/8

sorry, should have included some background info.

He is a kids TV personality, currently aired on the bbc's childrens channel, Cbeebies, Although he started out on CITV with Dave Benson Phillips, on fun song factory. He cbeebies shows include Tickabilla, Higgeldy house, Something Special, Gigglebiz, and coming soon is a new show called Jollywobbles. He also voiced the characters Doodles and Jake in the Tweenies.

Its is the show "Something Special" that I am most interested in, this is the show in which his character "Mr Tumble" appears.

The producer is Allan Johnston who worked as a teacher of children with special needs before joining the BBC in 1989. It is designed to teach children signing supported by Makaton gestures, and is specifically aimed at children with delayed learning and communication difficulties. It is aired on CBeebies (both the separate channel and CBeebies on BBC One and BBC Two).

It is presented by Justin Fletcher ("Justin" from Tikkabilla), and features various other characters (also played by Justin) and clips of disabled children. Justin speaks as well as signing, and a spoken narrative is provided over the clips of children.

The characters played by Justin (other than himself) are the Tumble Family: Mr Tumble, Grandad Tumble and Baby Tumble. Other members of the Tumble family to have made recent appearances include two Aunts - Polly and Suki (as in the popular nursery rhyme "Polly Put the Kettle On") and Lord Tumble.

The name of the programme derives from the idea that all children, irrespective of their position on the learning spectrum, are special.

My 3year old Daughter has Global Development Delay and has been learning Makaton for the past 18months, when I say learning, she attended classes. So a chance to meet Justin/Mr Tumble who has done so much to bring her on would be great for her.

He used to freak my little girl out when he was Mr Tumble. Think it was the episode when he was pretending to be a baby in a pram- scared the hell out of her!

I know a song that will get on your nerves, get on your nerves, get on your nerves.
I know a song that will get on your nerves, get on your nerves, get on your nerves.

God help us,
Come yourself,
Don't send Jesus,
This is no place for children.
