Hi,

I wondered if anyone on here can assist me with a bit of research. I'm looking to map any caves that are in existence in Wirral and west Cheshire. It's part of a bit of research in landscape archaeology but it's surprising how much local knowledge is considerably better than in books.

If you could list any that you know of, I'd be hugely appreciative.

Thanks,

Dean

There are caves on the sandstone cliff at Helsby hill although I have never seen them.

A friend tells me that there used to be a tunnel he went in in the 50s the entrance to which was by the Red Nose rocks by the sunken car park New Brighton
He says it was eventually blocked off with rocks and cement

also Yellow Noses to the entrance in the guys' garden

The caves in New Brighton are called Wormhole Caves and are in the entrance to them is in the rear garden of Number 56 Wellington Road the house used to be owned by the architect Norman Kingham who also used to own the Fort Perch Rock and the Lighthouse

This is my fairly well known engraving of what I assume is the Red Noses, before reclamation almost covered them.Is it dateable?

Would that be Rock Villa in the background?
