Some good stuff on these links. It's quite interesting that these guys managed to run them with very little funds. Some pics from the old tower blocks too.

Does anybody remember any of these?

My brother was a DJ on Merseywaves for quite a while he did the sunday afternoon slot. He was never there when they got raided, once he had just left when the snoops moved in.

Zee usually had quite a powerful output and it was on FM. Don't know if anyone still listens to MW or AM anymore. There are some good recordings on the site you can listen to. I like the ones when they are being raided and carry on broadcasting.

Not so good when you have to wait for court appearance to get vinyl back.

Commercial radio stations worry about losing listeners and ultimately advertising radio from pirate stations. Perhaps they should stay more relevant to their listeners. Radio 1 was initially heavily influenced by beginings in pirate radio.

I spent many years working the night club scene and one of the things that people found appealing was the "underground" attraction. Cream became a victim of this; once things started getting too commerical, many original customers stopped going.

Check out the MB21 tranmission gallery to view many of the commercial masts.

Radio 1 is Holm Moss: http://tx.mb21.co.uk/gallery/holmemoss/
Our TV signals ultimately come from Winter Hill: http://tx.mb21.co.uk/gallery/winterhill/index.php

Shame none of the pirate stations had a set up like these!
