remember when rox records used to be called "sounds nice" we used to go in there on saturday afternoons and the lady working in there used to put the chart 45's on for us to listen to. Dilys in Grange Road used to be a trendy boutique. Remember going to Robbs record department and asking them to put records on while you went in a booth to listen to it. Happy Days!!!

Any of you Moretonites remember the nightclub (name unknown) right up near the beach, towards the end of Pasture Rd. Had a sitting area and bar at the front with fruit machines(one armed bandits) then a dance area at the rear. This would have been about 1966/67.

are you talking about the Apollo
Used to go there regularly late 60s and 70s
Ithink it's now used for giving dancing lessons
Previously in earlier times it was a skating rink

another club in Moreton used to be the Haig club in Haig Avenue
also Moreton Football Club was ok for a night out

I reckon the oldest still going shops in Moreton are Post Office Chadwick Street Launderette top of Francis Avenue
the newsagents beginning of Chapelhill and the chippie by the library

Omg! All these Moreton memories! Shoppers World was the catalogue style shop opposite Iceland. The sign had a purple background and yellow lettering. I also go in the old market and think how did so many stalls and a cafe fit in here. Village trader....Billy Butler opened it. I thought the place was really posh lol. I was in Village Trader when Hillsborugh happened. That`s how I heard over their radio/speaker. But so many memories of all shops mentioned.

Unfortunately, Fosters fruit and veg shop has closed down. It was there until very recently. The shop is empty, still has the old Fosters Sign writing on it though.
Time Spot the watch and clock repairers is still there and still trading.
The newsagents next to Barclays had various names including Ricafeg, Collins (I think) and McColls as far as i can remember. Its a supersaver discount store now.
Can't help with the name of the Fishmongers, remember it though, fish used to gross me out so I stayed well clear of it.
As for Malcombs, I'm with you there. Sayers was my port of call.

I remember the holes in the wall where the potatoes where in Fosters.

I remember an old farm building/house on Digg Lane where the new row of shops are where Blockbuster is and the Estate Agents.

I remember Jones Chapman and Harland used to be on the block of shops where the Pet Shop is now and there was another Estate Agents there.

The surgery thats in Chadwick Street used to be in one of those houses converted to offices on Hoylake Road. I remember a old sign on the building which said something like ARROWEBROOK (ARR) It was painted on a glass box on the building.

There was a solicitors office next to or near the florist and they used to be an agent for National and Provincial building socitey (I can't remember the name)

And Don Walkers insurance was on Hoylake Road and is now a Auto Parts shop. The Pet shop used to be next door to Don Walkers.
