Looks like there's been a really bad fire in one of the flats that's between Brougham Road and Kenilworth Road, fire and police have been here for ages now and have closed that section of the road completely off.

36-year-old Wirral man dies after Wallasey flat fire

A 36-YEAR-OLD man has died after a fatal flat fire in Wallasey.

The blaze happened just after midnight today at flats above the Londis store on Brighton Street,

Three people were rescued by firefighters, but one of them died later in Arrowe Park Hospital.

The other two suffered smoke inhalation and an investigation into the cause of the fire has been started.

At this time, it is not thought to be suspicious.

The incident follows the death of a woman in July, who failed to escape a fire in a nearby flat on Brighton Street, above Beryls General Store.

Two words - smoke alarm. They cost the same as four cans of super strength lager.

I have always thought that ALL flats must be required by law to have smoke alarms, fire doors, fire extinguishes etc. I know our landlord has to.

If there is no smoke alarms in the flat then the landlord could be prosecuted.

I would think Paul is right, anyway hasn't the Fire brigade visited every property by now, I know they have been to ours a few times checking we have them and they work.

Were with a h.a and have to let gas servicemen in once a year to check the appliances and they also test the smoke alarms. We liable to go to court if dont let them in.
Im not moaning im just saying these rules that protect landlord+ tennants should also apply to private landlords. Or are they supposed to already?
