Any ideas? I know this is a groat but can't nail it except to Edward II or thereabouts. Can't marry up the marks to anything in a catalogue. Maybe someone will be able to point me in the right direction.

They're all similar from that time bert, as they just used the same die with different additions to it, changed hair styles and what have you. The "N" on the "London Civitas" bit is more stylised on my supposed Edward II and then there are neck adornments and also billed as "King of the Angls and the French" so that dates it a bit. Will try and get a more focused pic, yours are good.

It's a good read that. How it came about was that I was playing golf with a bloke and his ball marker looked a bit strange but I could recognise the head as being Edward of some sort. Had a look, told him to stop using it as a marker and then did a bit of research for him. He didn't even believe me. He still hasn't chased up a valuation but I am more than a little inquisitive. At least he doesn't use it as a marker any more. It just doesn't fit in totally with any of the descriptions I've followed up. Definitely a groat but the exact one ?????? Could be worth anything up to 3K.

Found the paperwork I did originally, here it is and any assist would be welcome.
Edward IV or Edward V weight 4grammes/61.7 grains
Mm cross patte or pieced cross, opened crown, trefoil below bust (or quatrefoil)
Pellet opposite left neck
"Realistic" hair, with forelock
Tressure of 9 arches with lis or fleurs on cusps
Saltire seperators on legend.

Reverse Curved "N", london Civitas
Rose seperator one place in legend before "T" (or possibly a cinquefoil or similar)

Mm EDWARDxGRAxREXxANGL ET FRANC

"Edward by the grace of God King of England & France"

Like I said, it fired up my imagination.

Good call Paul, lots to look at there. Yep, lean towards Edward IV, just need to find the exact match for the markings. If I find out anything I will post it on here.

happy
