Redundancy Looming - What to do?

This is probably where the worry begins, where you can see how quiet it is in work, the orders and the calls not coming to light but yet the bosses have said nothing.

If there ignoring the obvious who knows but what steps
can i take?

Where can i find out if i'm entitled to anything at all.
What do i do next.
And what do i do if i'm told that i am being made redundant.

Its not that obvious to me, seeing that ive never been made redundant, but it looks like it could happen.

Is it a case of calling the job center.
I'm curious and I'm sure others would be too.

Phone up on 0800 0556688 when you have about 40 minutes free, make sure you have all the usual NI no, length of nails, last date of haircut etc information ready - including your tax reference no (that one caught me out!). After this lengthy interview as well as being able to predict the next date your grandmother will ovulate, they will make an appointment at the local Job Centre Plus for you.

At the Jobcentre Plus the people there are really good if you are at Upton, not heard good reports for Birkenhead. You have to choose at least two job descriptions you would go for, sign a contract about how many times a week you will pick your nose and look for jobs and write off letters and ....(you must be getting the idea by now). Then if you have enough NI contributions over the last two years, you will get Contribution Based Job Seekers Allowance (JSA), if you don't have enough NI contribution you will get Income Based JSA, but if missus is working then you probably won't gt Income Based JSA. Either way if you do get it then you get your £53 a week and you have to pop into Job Centre every two weeks because they really like the pleasure of your company and have a good laugh at your attempts to prove you have been hunting hard for a job.

There is loads more to this as well, if you do bits of work (piece work) basically you have to re-apply everytime, but if recent then there is a fasttrack (haven't had the pleasure of that one yet).

If missus is earning AND you haven't got enough NI contributions then you get no JSA but they still pay your NI stamp.

While you get JSA you can get help with clothing for Interviews, £100 for suit, collar & tie, £40 for shoes. There are other bits you can claim as well but that is the best one. They prefer you to use their account with Burtons.

Both JSAs are about £53 a week which is the same as Income support which you can try and claim if you are not entitled to claim JSA.

The system is basically designed to make it hard work to get the money, I bet there are loads of people that just don't bother.

Start up a business its easier than the doley poley and possibly more lucrative in the long run lol.

You're right on that score. I was told "You have looked after yourself very well for the last 15 years, carry on doing the same." That was it. I wasn't too chuffed when I ended up with my leccy cut off and all the other crap that happened. I got over it in the end. Even tried to get on a training course and was told that the posters were just for show. I hope it's improved now, but good luck Mark and hope it doesn't happen anyway.
