saw a comment in the people today, saying "if Glenn Johnson is worth 18 mill (or whatever they paid) then this week we can expect the Khazakstan winger that tore him to shreds to smash Ronaldo's transfer record this week!"

made me grin anyway!

"can you describe the assailant?"
"er, 6ft3, moustache"

Lars Jacobsen signs for Blackburn Rovers - Everton FC latest

DANISH defender Lars Jacobsen signed for Blackburn Rovers on a two-year deal last night.

The 29-year-old has been weighing up his options since his contract with Everton expired at the end of the season.

Rovers’ Lancashire neighbours Burnley had also been linked with the Danish right-back.

Jacobsen arrived at Goodison on a free transfer last summer but was hampered by a shoulder injury and it was March before he finally made his debut at Portsmouth.

He played five other games towards the end of the campaign, including a substitute appearance in the FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea.

Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has been keen to bring in a right-back following the departure of Andre Ooijer to PSV and the return of on-loan Danny Simpson to Manchester United.

Manchester United sign winger Antonio Valencia

Manchester United have signed Ecuadorian International Antonio Valencia from Wigan Athletic on a four year deal for £16 million.
[Linked Image]
The 23-year-old winger has undergone his medical at Old Trafford and is the first signing for the Premiership Champions since the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo following the star's £80million move to Real Madrid.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be 'delighted' that the transfer has been completed.

Ferguson added: 'Antonio is a player we have admired for some time now, having spent the last two years in the Premier League with Wigan. I am sure his pace and ability will make a significant contribution to the team.'

Valencia, who has scored 4 goals for Wigan, said: “Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me.'

'I have enjoyed my time at Wigan, but I am thrilled to have the chance to challenge for the biggest honours in club football here.'

'Playing in front of 76,000 fans alongside players like Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs will be an amazing experience. I can’t wait to get started.'

Wigan Athletic will receive a club record fee for Antonio Valencia.

Latics Manager Roberto Martinez said he was 'disappointed,' but accepted that the transfer had become 'almost an inevitability.'

Martinez added: 'I was not here when he arrived, but Antonio has become a big star at the club. He has been a marvellous player for us and now we will benefit enormously from the money that we get for him.'

'As long as any deal is in the best long term interests of the club, and I believe this one is, then I will sanction it, and I know the Chairman agrees.'

'The bottom line here is that when two of the biggest clubs in the world come knocking, it would be near on impossible for any other club to prevent the move.'

Liverpool FC latest:Paul Anderson completes his move to Nottingham Forest.

LIVERPOOL winger Paul Anderson has signed for Nottingham Forest in a £250,000 deal.
[Linked Image]
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at the City Ground and has agreed a three-year contract.

Anderson failed to break into the first team at Anfield but believes he can achieve his dream of playing in the top flight with the Championship outfit.

He said: “Everyone’s ambition is to play in the Premiership and play at the highest level possible and I think we’re going to do that at this club.

“The ambition I’ve seen and the players I’ve seen at the club, there’s no reason why in the next couple of years we can’t be up in the Premiership.

“I’d love to go back to Anfield one day and show them what they have missed out on really.”

Anderson, who scored two goals in 28 appearances for Forest last season, turned down the chance to sign for Swansea City.

He arrived at Anfield from Hull City in January 2006 but the highly-rated youngster failed to live up to expectations and never made a competitive first team appearance.

Meanwhile, Wrexham manager Dean Saunders is in talks with Liverpool midfielder Ryan Flynn about returning to the Racecourse for the new season. Flynn spent the second half of last season with the Dragons, and his agent David Threlfall has revealed Liverpool want to farm him out again ready ahead of the new campaign.

Wrexham are expected to face stiff competition for the 20-year-old, who scored four goals in 21 appearances for the Dragons.

However, Saunders is hopeful he can persuade Flynn to return to the Racecourse after a spell in North Wales gave the Scottish youngster’s career the perfect boost.

Saunders said: “I’m hopeful he’ll come to us, although I know he’s probably got options.

“I’m hoping he’ll come back to us, and I’m hoping he’ll come back training stronger and fitter as he’ll be a year older. Hopefully he’ll have learned from last year and the time he spent with us will have done him good.”

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez believes another temporary switch will aid Flynn’s development, and a number of clubs are interested in him.

Threlfall said: “Liverpool are prepared to loan out Ryan during this summer’s transfer window. This is a big year for Ryan and he wants to be playing regular first-team football to continue his development.

“I have had a few enquiries for Ryan and we will sit down and decide what is the best option for him before deciding where to go.”

Flynn graduated from Liverpool’s Academy in the summer of 2006 after joining the club from Falkirk.

He was a key part of the club’s successive FA Youth Cup wins, scoring in the final against Manchester City in 2006 and bagging three goals during the 2007 campaign.

He is yet to make his senior debut for Liverpool but has featured in several pre-season friendlies.

Tranmere Rovers sign ex-manager's son in two-year deal this afternoon

TRANMERE Rovers striker Ian Moore has today signed a new two-year contract at Prenton Park.

Ian, who joined Rovers in January last year, is the son of former manager Ronnie Moore, who was controversially sacked by the club in June.

He made 50 appearances last season, scoring 11 times – three of which were in the top five entries in the club's Goal of the Season award.

Ian began his career at Tranmere and played for Nottingham Forest, West Ham United, Stockport County, Burnley, Leeds United and Hartlepool United before returning to the Club.

He has now made more than 130 appearances for Tranmere, scoring 27 goals. In total he has made more than 570 career appearances.

New Tranmere manager John Barnes, who took over days after Ronnie Moore's sacking, said: "I'm delighted Ian has decided to stay at the Club.

"He is a very experienced player who is a proven goal scorer. I look forward to working with him, and the rest of the squad, in pre-season training."

Ian added: "I've really enjoyed my time back at Tranmere and am happy to have signed a new contract at the Club.

"I'm looking forward to the new season and hopefully we will push for promotion."

Ian Moore and John Barnes will hold a press conference at the club's Prenton Park ground at 4.30pm today.
