Auction should be your first point of call!
Avoid Ellesmere Port auction, they use stooges who are there every week on cars that get bidded on, and the bloke who runs it is a tightwad. Ewloe is good.

Knowing nothing about cars!!! Just seen this one online. I know its a crap colour and shape but this seems quite reasonable for mileage. Has anyone else got one of these to comment please? Thanks If you like it, have a look at it. I don't think they're that bad looking.

Personally for around that budget i would try and stick with a jap car, not very interesting to look at or drive, but very reliable and dependable especially considering cars for around that budget are going to be a few years old.
Try not to buy cars from "lady owners" as generally they tend to have been neglected, so check for a full service history.
