Man arrested for murder following death of female security guard.




A WOMAN security guard has died after trying to stop a shop lifter at Morrisons store.

A local man in his 40s has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and was being questioned today.

Police were called to the store in Baxters Lane, St Helens on Saturday afternoon after it was reported that a member of staff there had been injured.

At that time her injuries were not thought to be life threatening. But the 47 year–old guard, who lived in St Helens, had returned home from her shift when she began to feel unwell and collapsed.

She was taken to hospital but died early yesterday afternoon.

The Morrisons store manager said today that he was not able to comment on the tragedy.

Police today said they are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the store at around 2pm on Saturday and may have seen something or anyone who has information about the incident.
