Selling my VW Beetle 1303s, 52,000 miles on the clock Mot till June and tax.

Structually in very good condition, body work could do with some TLC but is perfect for that rat look.

Very easy restoration project.

£1200

My guess is that £1200 is underpriced - a lot depends on condition of the chassis.

At this age the vehicle will likely be bought by someone KNOWING they will need to do repairs and to give TLC

When I sold my VW (30 year old and 250,000 miles on the clock albeit on the third engine) I sold it for what I had paid for it in 1972. The buyers ran it for some 6 more years but did not administer enough TLC and the rust worm eventually caught up with it

My advice would be to book a sales pitch at a VW rally eg there will be one at Tatton Park in August (http://www.volkswest.co.uk/shows.html). It costs £10 for a space in the sales field and you will get lots of VW oriented folk coming to look. That was how I sold mine.

Pics showing the underside are bound to help - but if you do go to a VWfest meet you can expect folk to crawl underneath the vehicle anyway. Bearing in mind you would be parked in a field it would be prudent to have a length of old carpet or the like to make life more pleasant for anyone making a "below" inspection. Little things like that can help a lot

Also useful is to have the log book and receipts for servicing or other work done. I am a fussy old git and over 30 years I had kept EVERY such receipt (honest).

What happened with mine was that a couple of guys (brothers) came to inspect the vehicle 3 times during the day at Tatton park - and then said they were serious and asked of they could come to my house (from Yorkshire) in a couple of days for a test drive. There is no real facility to test drive on most VWfest sites so that was sensible. They came, I drove, they drove, they agreed to buy. I suggested that they FIRST go sort out insurance because getting insurance on a 30 year old vehicle is not easy - and provide the payment as a bankers draft (effectively cash). They phoned a couple of days later with all sorted.
