A MAN has been arrested and charged over the 2002 murder of a Merseyside dad-of-two.
Eugene Furlong, 39, was attacked by a gang of masked men in the Rose and Crown public house (now the Wheatsheaf) on Derby Road, Huyton.
The former Pub
landlord and amateur boxer was bludgeoned to death by six men with baseball bats and pick-axe handles in front of shocked drinkers in May 2002.
Today, Merseyside police announced they had arrested and charged a suspect this week.
William Hughes, 37, of no fixed address, was charged with murder on Wednesday and appeared at Huyton magsitrates' court yesterday. He was remanded in custody and will appear at Liverpool Crown Court at a later date. THE ECHO
