HIGH street photo-processing chain Max Spielmann has secured 700 jobs after it was bought by retail chain Timpson Ltd.
Prior to the Timpson purchase last month the photo-shop had been in administration and a number of stores had already been closed.
It means the jobs at Birkenhead’s Max Spielmann shop in St John's Square are now safe.
Newly appointed Chief Executive, David Edwards, who has been brought back to lead the company following a five year absence, revealed the relief felt by Spielmann staff.
He said: “Many of our branch employees are women and part time workers. Our Birkenhead people are thrilled and delighted to have their jobs saved and futures secured.
"Women have proven to be a particularly vulnerable group as the recession hits the high street hard so there is a palpable relief amongst the workforce and indeed, across the company. There have been tears of joy.
He added: “The future of the Max Spielmann business is extremely bright. Timpson is an award-winning retail business that understands the needs of customers are best served by looking after the people who look after them.
“That is one of the guiding principles we will take forward as we transform the Max Spielmann business from one that somehow lost its way to a dynamic high street service provider alert and responsive to the many opportunities of the digital age.
“Birkenhead’s shoppers can now be assured that their Max Spielmann shop is open for business and has some great offers available whilst we clear the way for a great new range of products and services.” THE WIRRAL GLOBE
