AN 81-YEAR-OLD woman was taken to hospital, suffering from shock, after a man armed with a knife forced his way into her home in St Helens.
The pensioner was confronted by the man when she answered the door of her home in Hard Lane at 8.30pm on Saturday.
He then followed her round the house while he searched it, taking a quantity of cash and jewellery of sentimental value to the victim.
The offender locked the woman in the house when he left.
Police described him as 5ft 7in to 6ft tall, and of slim build. He wore dark clothing with his hood up, and his face was covered with a scarf.
The victim has now been discharged from hospital.
