God help us,
Come yourself,

Found on the 1901 census that one of my ancestors relatives worked there as a parlour maid, so could have been there at the time the photo was taken.

Sadly, things could be worse. Over the past few weeks I've noticed that it has not been open during the afternoon or early evening.

I don't know if it opens a little later, say 7.30, but might have shut down.

Good news - the bar had reopened when I went past yesterday. Looks like it had been refurbished.

Upstairs, new windows are in, but looks like it is still a work in progress.

There is still a tunnel from the basement to the old hospital. The steel doors to the tunnels are still in place, the pub cellar was used as an overspill for the morgue as is was cold and they could transport the bodies underground.

I remember the basement of Borough Rd library which was the childrens library being emptied out and used as a morgue during the blitz.
