I remember that, it was an ITV programme called 'New Brighton Rocks'. I went to one night and saw Madness and The Flying Picketts miming to their 80's hits. yes

remember that too! its was a stage setup over the pool and I remenber frankie goes to hollywood being on and even in a later interview they said how brill the concert was.

Its a pity really as new brighton has/had the potential to be a massive tourist attraction looking back on some of the events that have been held there.

very strange having the stage and all the electrics so close to water raftl but then the H&S freaks weren't so anal in those days.

The trouble is, the old school don't want regeneration from what's going on here recently. The potential is amazing - just needs someone somewhere to put their foot down.

OK, does anyone remember:

The big greenhouses in Birkenhead Park where they had tropical plants - I remember walking around it as a pre-school child. Mum used to joke that you'd see little old ladies breaking bits off plants for cuttings to take backhome.

Robbs Dept store - I have vague memories of going with my mum to buy school uniform for my older brother and sister. I didn't like it at all - I remember a dark oppressive atmosphere.

The Pyramids being built - seemed to take forever, and when it was and you were allowed in, it just seemed to be full of empty shops as they hadn't managed to get many stores in (probably due to high rent).

The old ferry landing stage at Woodside - not the red-painted one there now. The one before was very frightening to me. My first trip on the ferry was at the age of 4 with my parents. As you walked down the tunnel to the landing stage you couldn't see out. So it was a bit of a mystery to me where we were going.

The Coach & Horses in Moreton, when it was a Beefeater. I went there for a friend's birthday party and it was all set out inside like some kind of Swiss village (that was my visual reference at that age). There were boothes down one wall.

eek - i was gonna say toy and hobby too!!!

i remember it all being very expensive and only being allowed to walk round it but never bought much - we just couldn't afford it.
i think in the end mum avoided that part of town because of the heart-ache it gave me for barbie accessories

OK, of those, I remember the greenhouses in the park; I used to go & photograph the flowers there. I was sorry to see that when I started coming up again, they were gone.

Yes, I remember Robb's & yes, it was a bit gloomy, but it was worth it for a ride in the lift (with an attendant to operate it), to the Oak Room restaurant.

I left the area well before the Pyramids was built, when St.John's church was still there & you could walk all the way down Grange Rd., with a slight bend in the middle, all the way to Argyle St. I remember that the nearer Argyle St. you got, the more down market the shops were; at least, that's how I remember it.

Yes, I certainly remember the ferry & the walk down to the landing stage. I remember that on the ferry, (which were steam then, not Diesel), as you approached Liverpool you could see the trains on the overhead; often used to pass a couple of hours riding it, then perhaps a tram ride to one of the parks.

I remember Robbs and going in there because my teacher told me that I had to have a Dolmetsch recorder so my poor mum had to fork out for it.

Also remember the greenhouses yea and the little pond in the middle with fish in...or was that my imagination lol

I remember New Brighton very well, my mate had a very close resemblance to Ray Davies from the Kinks and wasn't that fun on a Saturday night. I used to go to a club there called the Kraal, great club full of atmosphere all cellars. I remember sitting in a cafe there one Saturday night and sitting at the next table was a guy named er Tony I think he was, one of the singers of the song Sorrow "With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue, all I ever get from you is Sorrow, sorrow". Sorry about that getting nostalgic for a mispent youth. I'll go now and let you whippersnipers get on with it. Wheres Chriskay when you need him. One other thing I was on the ferry where Gerry made Ferry 'Cross the Mersey, I have even got a copy of the DVD ahhh memories, memories.....bye.
